Feeling home letting yourself pampered by familiar hospitality, comfort and luxury: this is the philosophy of Henry's House Hotel, which hosts its guests in a wonderful location: 17th century building facing the Gulf of Ortigia. Excellent position, panorama and welcoming staff make it the best choise for an holiday on the enchanting Ortigia Island. Original antique furniture and flooring, combined with the attention to details, will charme your eyes and make you live a suggestive athmosphere. "Francesco. My wife is recovering from a broken shoulder. Could she have an extra pillow, please?" "Of course! Would she prefer memory foam or feathers? Let me bring one of each" This brief exchange encapsulates the warm welcome & exceptional service we enjoyed over 3 nights at Henry's House. Ortigia itself is a fascinating island linked by two bridges to Syracuse. The hotel is set in a perfect location overlooking the bay, and is wonderfully quirky in its style, comfort and ambience. We absolutely loved it and would recommend it in the strongest possible terms.

Hotel's Favourite
We had a room with a beautiful terrace and an amazing seaview. The funiture is old-fashioned, but I liked it very much, it was very cosy. I like hotels like this one, it is charming and it fits perfect in this city. There wasn´t any dust, every corner was clean. The breakfast was excellent and glutenfree is no problem! The staff is extremly friendly, we got a bottle of tasteful sicilian wine to drink at the terrace and mini bar for free. I liked our stay there and want to come back as soon as possible, even covid 19 is no problem there!!!

I've traveled all over the world and this is now my favorite hotel. The level of charm is off the charts. Great location, competent and friendly staff, amazing breakfast, fantastic design, comfortable room, and unbelievably beautiful outdoor spaces. There are numerous terraces. Sit outside under a roof of grape vines, the clusters of grapes within grasp, gaze out over the ocean while eating a sumptuous breakfast. Interesting paintings and artwork everywhere. On top of all of that is was a great value!

The hotel’s own description covers most of it: 17th century building facing the Gulf of Ortigia. Excellent location, welcoming staff, original antique furniture and flooring. Excellent breakfast, with cakes, pies, tarts. Also flat bread and stuffed bread, filled with seasonal ingredients, as well as fresh fruit and fresh squeeze orange juice. All enjoyed on the terrace with sea view. We arrived in the afternoon and were on the terrace with a map and notes, enjoying a complimentary drink, and thinking about where we wanted to have dinner. And then we met Francesco. He explained that he was the owner and was happy to make recommendations. He quickly had us organized with three, as it turned out, excellent suggestions. His staff made the reservations, and we were greeted as VIP’s at each restaurant. Parking can be an issue on the island so we parked at Porta Marina and walked in. The hotel has an arrangement with a parking deck off the island. They picked up our car from the city lot and valet parked it for much less than it would have cost to park for three days in a city lot. You may want to call ahead and make the arrangements. It will save you time and money. This was our second visit to Siracusa, and when we return, this is the only place we will stay.

Ok so the positives first. Amazing location, incredible views, lovely caring staff, comfortable beds and nice sheets (recently changed maybe after reading previous reviews), nice bathroom products, free items from mini bar. Lovely breakfast (although at this price fresh juice would be expected and no sight of the Sicilian cannoli mentioned on the website) and great terrace for taking breakfast and watching the incredible sunsets. I think I do understand what the owner is trying to create, a homely lived in feel, like staying with a friend. But for nearly €200 per night in late October it falls short. Certainly it might be a 4 star (lift, hairdryer, telephone in room) but who wants to read four year old magazines laid out for guests, old paperbacks nobody has read for years, admire plastic flowers in clashing vases, furniture your grandmother would long have got rid of (although there are some fabulous items) questionable art that might once have been fashionable, even though by a known local painter (Fiore). Bathroom terribly small and terribly dark (just two small dim lightbulbs). Bathroom towels thin. Rain shower? Nespresso maker? Not in our room...Some beautiful items thoughout the place, antique tiles, planters, paintings, but others so quirky, and so questionable in taste as to make the whole too confusing and missing the feeling of luxury you might expect at this price. I will give four stars overall (the staff and location and views definitely rate a 5) because I have seen the owners reaction to previous critical reviews, and I do not want my personal thoughts to affect his business.
