Ortigia is small enough to walk all of it and get everywhere easily - getting lost in small side streets part of its appeal. Camere Con Vista is ideally located in the centre of all this and with a spectacular seascape panorama from some rooms. Clean and well kept it’s a great pad for the solo or couple traveler. Best part though really was the extra care taken and shared by Gianluca. Making it easy and welcoming for the traveler and guiding to enjoy the town more pleasurably. Recommended.
When we arrived in Siracusa and telephoned the owner he said he couldn't get there for 3 hours - go and have a long lunch. We turned up at the place 3 hours later and it still took several phone calls to get him to come to the property. Firstly showed us a room which was awful and nothing like described. He agreed to change us to one which was better but still TV, internet etc did not work. However rooms are well placed on a quiet street between the port and Piazza Duomo. Ortigia itself is lovely.
It began when the taxi driver couldn't find it -- because half the number had dropped off outside. This was an omen of things to come. We were told to wait outside for ten minutes then let in. Entered to a damp, smelly space with crumbling, concrete steps held up by scaffolding leading to the top floor. The room was not quirky Italian, as I had hoped, but dated and sparse. An institutional bed and old tatty furniture and a cracked window held together by sticky tape. Air con didn't work, old TV didn't work. No lights at the top of the stairs either. Then it rained and water dripped from the ceiling into the electricity consumer box -- so the electricity went off. The manager (when we got hold of him) said he would move us to another room the next day but to keep switching the trip switch back. This struck me as dangerous. It went off every five minutes. Wifi was off for three days too. We were moved to a room without a view and then next to another one --that had the view we had paid for, by being firm. We then had power but no wifi and the air con and old TV still didn't work. A rave that night until 2.30am just outside the window was the last straw and we moved to a hotel. On the plus side the rooms were cleaned daily by a nice woman, the view is delightful and we only paid £80 a night -- cheap for Siracuse. Breakfast at a nearby cafe in the cathedral square was good. All in all though it felt uncomfortable and a struggle.…
The sunset view was magnificent, th location second to none, the bed squeaky (pity the neighbours, if...) and the room as a whole quaint and comfy (it's a good B&B, not a 5 star hotel!). Gianluca (the host) is a sincere young man making every effort to provide the best service possible, and when the electricity went in our room, he was on the spot in 5 minutes and fixed things. The breakfast is a coupon for 2 items and 2 beverages at a café on the most beutiful piazza on the Ortigia island - we were quite content. If - and we'd like to - we ever come back to Siracusa and Ortigia again, we would stay here again without hesitation.
Gianluca was a great host! When my taxi to Catania had to cancel due to a sick baby, he offered to drive me himself! The view from this room is spectacular and the breakfast in plaza duomo was YUM! The location was perfect for exploring the little island and it's many wonderful restaurants and bars. Highly recommend this lovely room with a view!
