We chose this hotel for two reasons; the excellent location and the charm and character of the design. Located on the edge of the main street everything is literally on hand. People actually wander down to the hotel to take in the amazing views. These are best enjoyed from the pool area and are just superb. Check in was effortless and very welcoming. You will be issued with the Wi-Fi code on arrival and the Wi-Fi is actually very good and reliable. The hotel was built in 1904 and enjoys many of the original fixtures and you really do get a feeling of elegance. Breakfast was pretty good and there are some really nice pastries and cakes available every morning. Be careful with the shower though as it relies on solar panel heating and therefore can be hit and miss temperature wise. Staff always are pleasant and are happy to help with things like booking reliable taxis for you. Overall we really enjoyed our stay here and would thoroughly recommend it.

Triffic stay with a spectacular view of Mount Etna, whose mood changes with the weather! We enjoyed our room , but the shower was an issue. Sited half way along the bath it prompted water spraying everywhere flooding the bathroom. The bar and social areas were good. Sadly the pool was not open during our stay , well it was but the cleaning apparatus prevented its use. Reception staff were helpful , the food was good at breakfast snd the evening . Great views , access to the hotel was via a lift from the carpark.

Hotel is in a good location. I found the staff very friendly. As with hotels and staff the world over....it is important that you engage with the staff to create a good one to one relationship albeit a short one. Barman was good fun and made our evening terrace drinks jolly. There is a Grand Piano in the Bar Lounge and whilst we were there "Antonello" was playing in the evening. Superb laid back chill style played to perfection and made it look so easy. Thanks to him. Rooms were OK, clean, plenty of towels and a little décor dated but we could live with that bearing in mind what we paid and its location. Reception and chamber staff were super friendly. Good breakfasts as well.

Hotel was beautiful, room very clean, staff wonderful. We had a corner room and kingsize bed. The grounds are wonderful- the pool wasn't open yet bet what a wonderful place to spend a quiet day if needed. I saw other reviews said it was quite a walk- but that's what traveling is all about ! Breakfast buffet was fine. Seriously, very surprised about some of the other comments- all the staff was wonderful! BE CAREFUL- And this may not be the fault of the hotel. We were told ground transportation to and from the airport was 115.00. They arrange a taxi service. When we left to return home- the charge was 150.00 and the driver did not take credit cards (ATM at airport!!) Hopefully if hotel management reads this they will or should be aware.

This place in some ways as if I were in a Gatsby-type setting on a movie set. All the bells, buzzers and whistles aside, the place is iconic. The view from the top of a cliff is stunning. It exudes lavishness. It definitely earns its 4 star rating.

The hotel was very clean and although in need of updating was comfortable. However we were under the impression that we had booked the best room with a balcony to relax in. This was not the case. We were given a standard double room with no balcony. I thought ah well I can relax by the pool. The pool was inaccessible because the only way to reach it was to walk down about 150 feet on steps with no handrail. This was a problem as my partner is disabled and I was recovering from Covid. We were told if we did not accept the room offered it would be given to someone else and we would have to find another hotel. Obviously not an accommodating response. NEVER AGAIN!!!

A stylish, early 1900' hotel with a beautiful garden, outdoor pool and fantastic views. Comfortable beds and a stylish on-site restaurant. Perfectly located hotel offers parking, which is a huge advantage in Taormina

The Excelsior Palace Hotel is a treasure of a hotel I am so glad I found it. It is situated at the top of a cliff with breath taking views of the bay and snow-capped Mount Etna. The walk through their extensive private gardens to the pool, which is surrounded by the Bay on three sides, is a pure joy. The staff are polite, friendly and attentive. The breakfast room filled with glorious sunshine has an extensive buffet and a proud pastry cook’s selection of daily, freshly homemade pastries. They do not serve lunch but include tasty canapés, crisps and nuts with a drink order. The only downside was our room – the largest Classic Room as we were staying 6 days but with no sea view, I asked to change but was misunderstood and shown a room with a view of mountains including Mount Etna. Afraid I am like Inspector Montalbano I don’t like mountains but prefer the sea and will know better when I return again to the Excelsior for next year’s birthday.

Lovely historic building. The hotel has a lovely “old world” atmosphere. It was very comfortable and clean. The room was a good size with a lovely view of Mount Etna. The gardens around are beautiful. We were very lucky with the weather, although it was predicted to be cold and cloudy, it was beautiful and sunny and reached about 18 degrees in the late morning/afternoon. The hotel is well positioned to explore Taormina. It is at the start of town and there are a few good restaurants extremely near. Before we arrived I struggled to find any information on the hotel restaurant. We tried it one evening and it was very good food. They had a selection of starters, I had a fresh salad with bresaola, we then had pasta, mine with snapper and a light tomato sauce, my son had a canelonni with cheese and pumpkin. Both dishes were delicious, with the pasta Al denté. The dinner was served in a room by the bar on the ground floor of the hotel and overlooked Mount Etna. The breakfasts were included and were delicious with a good selection of cheeses, meats salads and eggs and Italian style pastries and granitas and brioche. I thought that the hotel was very good value for our money. The staff were polite and discreet. Some people may feel that it is a bit tired and it Could have done with a bit of fresh paint and a cosmetic makeover. It could, but we felt it didn’t prevent us from enjoying a comfortable stay.
