The hotel was traditional and beautiful. Cortona is a 30 minute steep walk but so worth it. i would book wine tasting at Il Falcionieri it was truly stunning. Definitely advise hiring a car as taxi's are sparse and the train station is a 30 minute walk along a busy road. the staff were amazing and even drove us to the bus station at 6:45am in order for us to get to the airport in time. I highly recommend!

*attention all women* An older member of staff at the hotel approached me at the pool and was flirtatious and at times very inappropriate with his comments. He propositioned that he come to my room at 11pm, after his shift, and have a wine with me. Despite saying no and telling him I have a boyfriend, I received a knock at my door at 11:05pm. Assuming it was him, I proceeded to stay quiet in hopes he would leave. Despite my efforts, he followed his knocking with an attempt to gain access to my room with what I can only imagine was a back up set of keys. As soon as I heard the jangle of the keys and the moving of the door handle, I got up and held my weight against the door and yelled out. Once I spoke, he left. Being in an isolated building, set far back from the main reception, I felt isolated, scared and in danger and felt the need to push my chest of drawers against the door in order to feel safe enough to shut my eyes and try to sleep. The owner of the hotel attempted to sweep the issue under the rug, eventually giving me a full refund and driving me to the station - however the damage was already done. If you are a female travelling alone - be wary before booking.

Definitely recommend a car for visiting the surrounding area and reaching the hotel. The restaurant food was good, although a little pricey for what was served. Pool was wonderful. My comfort double room was very clean, comfortable bed, and very large and clean bathroom. The property was lovely and has many fruit trees! The breakfast was quite good with excellent coffee!

Second time here. Garden and pool really needs maintenance. Staff sometimes not very service minded at breakfast. Restaurant quality varying. The place has excellent potential if the above points are addressed. Will not visit again unless improvements are confirmed by other visitors.

We loved staying at Borgo Il Melone - the grounds are lovely, lots of gardens, courtyards and interesting buildings to explore. We were there in early May for three days - wisteria on the arbors in full bloom and early spring flowers abound The pool was not open yet and grounds maintenance (mowing, pruning, etc) just starting but this did not hinder our enjoyment. Our room was clean and comfortable, quiet and peaceful with a view from every window. The staff was amazing - so friendly, knowledgeable and helpful with recommendations from nearby restaurants to exploring the region. The restaurant on site is excellent and so convenient we ate two of our three dinners there. The location is perfect for exploring the area if you have a car. We found easy (paid parking) just outside Cortona (few minutes away,)-to explore the town by foot a and loved the convenience of accessing roads to Chianti, Florence, Arrezzo, etc without the traffic issues of staying in town. Highly recommended for all types of travelers.

Great Tuscan hotel with an amazing pool (hard to find a pool at many hotels). Staff was warm and inviting! I highly recommend for people with or without families. We brought our kids and they had a blast running around the property and swimming.

This is the third time to visit this charming hotel. The staff have changed since last time, with Giacomo, Ariauma, Patrizia and Savta manning reception.. The friendly , extremely helpful Simone at breakfast (and for dinner on the terrace) Plus Francesco managing dinner on the upper terrace. Great friendly people, our De Luxe room was extremely comfortable with a private terrace on the ground floor. Breakfast was really pleasant, with mixed meats/cheeses and so many cakes plus scrambled eggs if needed. Dinner was also a very nice experience, outside with number of choices, always helped by Simone on the translation.. A lovely central location which is more fun with a car which we rented from Panichi Auto ( a couple of hundred yards away).. Didn't have the opportunity to use the lovely pool as it opened midway through our time and we toured around. A really enjoyable 7 nights, looking forward to next year.. Thanks everyone..

Place quiet and full of a variety of plants and trees, close to Cortona and not to far from Arezzo. Good quality of dinner and amazing the possibility to have dinner oudoor. To be improved the cleaning process of the room, especially the bathroom. At our arrival the closing cleaning of the room from the previous family had not been performed correctly in the toilet and in the room, leaving dust and hairs on the ground floor.

I would actually give this 4 1/2 stars. This is a spectacular villa with many well kept buildings and an olive orchard, along with many other fruit bearing trees on the property. I picked fresh figs every day. The pool and pool area is gorgeous and clean. The best part is you can see the old city of Cortona from the side of the pool. It is truly awe-inspiring. The room was beautiful and very clean. The bed was fine and it's true, the A/C could have been better, but the weather wasn't that hot and we didn't need it that often. The bedroom was plenty big enough and the bathroom was huge, with a separate shower and tub. The front desk staff were polite at best, but Giacomo was excellent and made up for the rest of them and their lack of friendliness. I don't know why they are like that, but they are. Ilaria is there during the day and she is a bit more friendly and helpful, so it was fine, but the others staff just gave the bare bones of service. Giacomo went above and beyond for my sister and I. We got stuck in a 4 hour traffic jam, leaving Sorrento and didn't arrive in Cortona until 2:40a.m. Giacomo went out of his way to give us his cell phone number and had us call him so he could meet us at the Villa and let us in our rooms. He was so wonderful!! The food was delicious at the restaurant. We did find the staff to be somewhat unfriendly, but if you make small talk with them, they come around a bit. The coffee and the breakfast buffet were delicious. I highly recommend the tomatoes and mozzarella along with the cakes. So good! A great way to start your day. We had dinner in the restaurant at night and it was delicious. The weather was beautiful, so we were able to eat outside fir almost every meal. It made everything so much better! In speaking to the staff, I found out that the restaurant is run separately from the hotel and they don't really have much to do with each other. Though the staff were a bit unfriendly, I just chose to ignore it and enjoy my time there. The service wasn't bad and the food was really good. We didn't let it ruin our stay and there were so, so many good things that outweighed the lack of friendly service, I would go back again and again! If the owner reads these reviews, he has a "winner" with Giacomo and should do everything he can to keep him. He makes the place wonderful and memorable!
