Excellent location just off Piazza Republica. Friendly and helpful staff. Decent sized room with a very nice view. But I have a very important suggestion for the hotel: Please put a mini-fridge in the room. I would have really liked to buy a few things from the grocery store to keep in my room, especially some bottled water, fruit and maybe a bottle of wine. Not having a mini fridge detracted from my enjoyment of the downtime that I had in my room. Another suggestion would be to keep the 4th floor breakfast room open all day so guests can use it as a lounge and enjoy the beautiful views. One thing about Cortona which is no reflection of the hotel: If you don’t have access to a car, staying in Cortona is difficult. There are no metered taxis and private cars, even for a short ride to the train station, are very hard to come by. You have to rely on a public bus that goes to the train station and the bus is very reliable and even pleasant, but hours are limited.

very nice hotel for the money. The innkeeper is excellent to deal with and seems to care about his customers. The location is exceptional, in the heart of town. The rooms are nice, and the breakfast is very good. Highly recommend.

The room was large and spacious which was ideal for our 4 night stay for a friends wedding. Air con worked, views from our room across the roof tops and all the facilities in the room you may need such as hairdryer and safe. Breakfast was in the top of the hotel with panoramic views and the breakfast itself was good. Location fantastic being just off the main square but also not too noisy.

Wonderful place to stay. Located minutes from the main piazza and close to many good restaurants. Good value for the money. Be sure to reserve the valley view room. View is phenomenal! Excellent, complimentary breakfast - be sure to tip the young lady serving the coffee. She’s a wonderful and deserving woman.

Hotel Italia was my home for 3 months during a study abroad and I can't stress enough how wonderful my stay was. Staff members are kind, accommodating and will make your stay comfortable. The hotels location is perfect for those who want to experience the heart of Cortona being in prime location for visits to museums, restaurants and the main piazza. My favorite part of the hotel must have been the view from the breakfast room which is in itself a reason to stay at the hotel. If you are looking to stay in Cortona Hotel Italia is the place to stay.

I stayed at Hotel Italia for 3 months whilst studying abroad and had a great experience. Franz and Chiara were both very helpful throughout my entire stay and Franz was an absolute delight to be around. It's and older building but the beds are comfortable, the amenities are nice, and the cleaning staff were very kind. It's also located in the heart of the city, making it easy to get groceries, go to restaraunts, the laundromat, and public transit without having to walk too far. I would absolutely recommend staying at Hotel Italia, I look forward to coming back here in the future.

My daughter and I had a lovely stay at Hotel Italia in the heart of Cortona. The owners & staff were incredibly friendly and made sure we had a pleasant stay. They spoke excellent English (important for us because we do not speak Italian well). The hotel is very centrally located inside the city and was a very easy walking distance to shopping, restaurants, and tourist attractions. Cortona itself is lovely and not to be missed. We had a car, and the hotel staff arranged for parking nearby (you can drive into the city to drop off your luggage, but the parking itself is a short uphill walk away). We would definitely stay here again.

If you're looking for a place that is centrally located to the restaurants and shopping this is a good hotel. Our experience wasn't as positive as the other reviewers, but we also happened to arrive when there were strong rains which caused quite a bit of water intrusion in the hallways near the windows. As we traveled through Italy we noticed that we received better hotel rates booking directly with the hotel rather than online. That was not the case with Hotel Italia. We were quoted a higher rate than Priceline, but it was within $10 so we agreed. We were supposed to get a deluxe room, but once we got to the room, it was very run down. Yes, I know that this is an old castle, but this was upkeep issues- the door handle lock was loose, our window was wood framed and didn't close properly. With the rain I was concerned we would have puddling like I saw in the hallways. The part I couldn't get over is that we were in a corner with a view of significant pigeon droppings and maintenance debris/tools. My husband went downstairs to request a room with a better view. He was told by the gentleman that he didn't have time for this and that he was dealing with the water intrusion. During our travels, we've had our share of not so great rooms, but the Host's graciousness made up for it. To be honest, this was the rudest we had been treated on our 5 week trip, but I assumed it was due to the stress of the situation. He told my husband that it would be an added charge for a different room. I would've protested the added expense, but my husband didn't. I thought maybe when we checked out they would decide not to add the expense given the state of the room. We were charged the extra expense at check out. The "upgraded room" had a beautiful view and was spacious, but I wouldn't return. I will say the breakfast was delicious and the view while dining was my favorite part of the hotel.

Honestly the best hotel of my two month trip to Italy. Perfect location for staying in Cortona, as it is pretty much located on one of the main piazzas but also close to the bus stop and parking lot, should you need to leave. The rooms are quite spacious, especially for four young women staying there. I loved that it felt like you were in a castle, with some rooms having old stone walls and unique architecture. The hotel manager is also the most helpful person! Should you need anything, whether it be a diner recommendation or help booking a taxi, he's your guy! Would also recommend visiting Cortona in June for the medieval festival.

We stayed in room 43 which had excellent views into the valley below as well as two bell towers nearby. They rang at 8:00am for "good morning" and 10:00 pm for "Good night." It gave us a feel of being in Cortona in the 1700's. a wonderful experience! The view from the 4th floor restaurant at breakfast was spectacular. All the staff were gracious and helpful. If/when we go back to Cortona, this is where we'll stay again.
