Owner are old so difficult to communication with. The bedding and furniture are old so i don't sleep well for one night there. I was surprised at the bathroom/toilet that is big size but located next to the reception that made me feel uncomfortable. I would not consider anyone to stay there.

I'm all for experiencing local culture and understand average Europeans do not enjoy the same amount of personal space and luxury as average Americans. Therefore, I expect rooms in old buildings in Italy to be smaller and water pressure to be weaker and accept the sewer systems can't handle soft, thick toilet paper. But I have to draw the line...

The hotel is centrally located, close to the city centre and very close to the train station. The staff were very friendly. The room was clean. Wifi reception in the room was good. I would go here again.

We stayed overnight on transit before catching an early train in the morning. The location was perfect as it's 10-minute walk to Santa Maria Novella train station. The room was comfortable and it has the basic facilities. We had the shared bathroom/toilet which was inconveniently located next to the reception. Unfortunately when we arrived the guy at the reception wasn't...

Do not stay here, Rude staff, When we returned the second day, we found our toiletries knocked over and in the biday, they took all of the towels but did not replace with new towels. We called the desk for new towels but no one ever picked up the phone. We walked outside and hit the buzzer but no one...

A clean, convenient budget hotel close to the train station. Stayed two nights. It is extremely basic, but met our needs. No flash, weak internet, but close to some good restaurants and easy walking to all the sights in the old city. Only saw the man at the reception upon check-in, then saw no one else the entire stay -...

Location is the only good thing about this place. Poor service, overpriced, wifi signal weak and very noisy. Our room was next to reception and the street so constant noise from both sides. Florence has better places to offer for same prices....

Despite being a 1* we could not fault this hotel. It is very clean, tidy and in a great location. A less than 5 minute walk from the train station and 15 minutes from main attractions it is a great choice if you are on a budget. We fell in love with Florence and would definitely come back and we...

I stayed at the Hotel Margaret for a week back in May of 2010 with some friends. We had a room with 3 beds and a private bath. This hotel is run by a friendly family who always greet you as you come and go. The young man who works the front desk, Graziano speaks English and is very nice....

Looking at the reviews can't believe we stayed in same place as those that give this hotel a good rating. Yes, it is close to the station and the sights but that is all. We were put in a front noisy room facing the street. The room was clean but the bedding and furniture are old like the owners. We had...

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
