As Americans studying in Wales, we decided to spend 2 weeks of our spring break traveling throughout Italy. We arrived in Florence, tired and hungry. Our original hotel reservation was lost, but we ended up finding the Pensione Margaret. I am so glad that we stayed here, because the service was amazing. Even though we arrived late, the front desk...

Absolutely wonderful!!!:) My husband and I stayed in this lovely hotel in September 2009 and found it totally delightful! The location is perfect and very easy to find - virtually minutes away from the SMN station - but in a very quiet and beautiful street, very close to all you want to see in Florence! The room we stayed in...

"I stayed at Hotel Margaret in Florence for 2 nights in August 2009. My daughter and I were travelling with back packs and we walked from the train station to the hotel easily. It was a short walk. The location is perfect for sightseeing. The price was right E45 per night for a double with a shower. The family members...

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
