This is not a five star hotel and certainly not a Leading Hotel of the World. It is a quaint hotel located within walking distance to the train station. I had a room on the top (5th) floor with a balcony with views over the city. The hotel has an old world charm that may not appeal to everyone. First...

My employer booked me into the Sina Villa Medici in Florence, and after a two-night stay, let's start with what wasn't good: Nothing! Now for the good stuff. The room was awesome. I had a large room on the 3rd floor with a balcony overlooking the quiet, quaint gardens and a bed that was very firm and comfortable. The room...

We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights as part of tour and would have stayed another week! The hotel was beautiful and the staff could not have been nicer. We were a triple occupancy and the "roll away" bed was an actual twin bed that was very comfortable. Considering we were a triple, the room was very spacious and...

The room was absolutely beautiful, as well as the hotel grounds. The room itself was old world charm while the lobby, bar/lounge area was modern yet cozy and comfortable! We were celebrating our anniversary and the staff treated us like royalty! In particular, staff member Alfredo Renzi deserves honorable mention for his professionalism, attention to detail and his warm personality...

As soon as we arrived the staff came to greet us and take our bags to the front desk and to our rooms upon checking in. It's a magnificent lobby, bar and several sitting areas. A wonderful aroma permeates the air and has a permanent presence. The staff is friendly, available at all times and helpful. The rooms were a...

This hotel is not in the thick of things but the staff and accomodations made up for it. My only criticism is the lack of air conditioning---and we went in October. Too nice of hotel not to have this. Food was great, too. Staff excellent.

High level of the hotel, nice place, second time here, same opinion. Great breakfast, clean room with balcony, not far from historical centre. When we come back to Firenze, we again come back to this hotel. Jana

This hotel is lovely but the staff are a little aloof and the service was 'patchy'. On the positive side the hotel was well situated for visiting all the main tourist sights. Because the Juventus football team were visiting at the same time as our stay, we were perhaps not experiencing the service normally provided as the staff appeared to...

Breakfast was nothing but very average and definately NOT worth the 36 Euros each! I would recommend going to one of the many cafes nearby. We had sleepless nights as apparently the hotel didnt count on having 23 degrees heat and switch all air- conditioning off as its October ! We had to sleep with balcony doors open as we...

Train travel has its good points - the scenery down the Brenner Pass, for example - but it can also be pretty gruelling wrestling with baggage, trying to find the correct Italian platform, wondering if Car 1 is act the front or the bag of a long train etc .... Arriving in Florence after all of that, we arrived at...

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
