We had a double room Superior with a balcony and it was not too big, the bathroom was rather small, but still comfortable. I suspect that other rooms can be smaller. But... the balcony itself and the view from it was worth the price! It was rather cold during our visit, but still we didn't want to go out of...

Very good location for visiting most of the popular sights in Florence. Via del Gallo it's a very special street. From the door of the hotel, turning to left, you can get Il Duomo, the Galleries and Ponte Vecchio.. And if you go to the other side you will find another interesting places as well. The hotel is beautiful and...

This hotel is in a very good location for visiting most of the popular sights in Florence. The hotel is very clean and the room we had which was on the ground floor and looked out on to a garden area was a good size with a big bed and the bathroom was good too with a large shower. We...

Great hotel all the way around. Excellent service! Staff was very helpful. Helped with Restaurants, directions, and transport to train station. We got to look around the courtyard where the master studied on the last morning. Will stay again when we return!

I've stayed at a lot of places in Florence over the years. This was probably the best. Loved the building, the garden and the location. Only a short walk to anywhere you'd want to go, but not over-run by herds of camera-clicking tourists.

A good location within walking distance of most sights. A very warm welcome. Fantastic lobby area and garden. A really well-designed room that felt spacious and clean. We had a great stay here in spite of there being no bar in low season. Check out the reception room on the first floor. If only we could've had breakfast there instead...

The lobby and outdoor garden walkway to our room was beautiful. The hotel writes that the garden area once hosted an art school that Leonardo daVinic visited as a youth. It was owned by the deMedici. The room was very large and had a separate shower and toilet areas. There was a room safe. Also a small private outside sitting...

Just came back from a wonderful 4 night stay in Florence in an equally wonderful hotel, We didn't arrive till about 20.00 hrs but were met with a warm greeting from the receptionist, and were lucky enough to be given a free room upgrade (room 81) which was a lovely room with its own terrace area and garden view. The...

Renovated rooms that are spacious and clean. A comfortable spot to rest weary feet from all the walking around town. There is a wide enough assortment of things for breakfast including gluten free food.

Historical hotel, nice staff and located close to the Florence main spots. The room was clean, big and has a "closet". The breakfast was really good. There is an open space that is really nice too. To repeat!

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The pleasant atmosphere of this residential area, a stone’s throw away from the Duomo of Florence, surprises everyone. A continuous flow of backpacking students provides the tranquil surroundings for the elderly residents who sit in Piazza San Marco to read the daily newspaper. Home to several universities, including the Academy of Fine Arts, San Marco is one of the most vibrant cultural centers in the city. A bridge connecting the modern cultural activity of Florence to its classic art, represented by the everlasting magnificence of the original David, resonates as a symbol of Florence and of Italy as a whole. Get lost in a Neoclassic world, a journey back in time through historic buildings like Spedale degli Innocenti (Hospital of the Innocents), San Marco church, Basilica della Santissima Annunziata, and natural jewels like the Botanical Gardens.
