Pretty dirty hotel. No garbage basket provided in room ( only bathroom), window out to gas release courtyard. Dated. Stuffy. No bidet. It is not worth it. So many nicer places to go. Decent location if you like to be near train. Staff not very friendly. There is a lobby to rest in which is way more comfortable than the room.
Location is near main train station and the center of Florence, everything is a walking distance from this charming hotel. We loved that it is traditional, with an old school charm but well maintained. The staff were friendly and helpful we really cannot fault the service, rooms or location… we could see the Duomo from our window! So special! Our experience was amazing cannot wait to go back!! The hotel is situated in the very center of the city, just 10 minutes and you were in front of the Duomo! The staff were helpful, receptionists spoke English well. The hotel has a vintage feel and it is very charming. The room was more spacious than we expected, cleanliness was always on point and the beds were exceptionally comfortable. Romantic old Charm Hotel, highly recommended!
we were not expecting much because of the price we paid, we arrived at 11.30 after an early flight from London the check in was 2pm we were prepared toask for somewhere we could keep our cases until 2pm but no not a bit of trouble shown to our room straight away, the room was a double clean and a good size, the hotel is very central easy walk to anywhere, breakfast was good and we ate well, but what really makes this hotel special is the reception staff who went out of their way to help you and a special mention to the man(sorry we did not get your name) who every time we saw him day or night was smiling and made us feel so welcome thankyou so much Lee and Elayne room 241
I stayed at the San Giorgio for two nights with my girlfriend, as we were in town for her birthday. I was already positively impressed when I booked, because the price was great for such a central hotel; obviously, however, a low price can be a double-edged sword, so when we got there (following a 3-minute walk from the Santa Maria Novella train station) I was a little wary of potential issues with the place – lo and behold, my misgivings were almost entirely baseless. I mean, I'm not gonna lie, the place isn't high-end: it's a little too dark and heavy on curtains/draperies, the toilet in our room was too close to the wall so that it couldn't be opened fully, and the Wi-Fi on the fourth floor was dodgy at timea. What we found, on the other hand, was a very tight-knit staff that was always kind and available, even before our check-in and after our check-out. Moreover, our bed was remade and our towels were replaced every morning, something I don't take for granted in a 3-star hotel. Finally, the 7:30 breakfast was nothing too fancy but did its job very well, especially thanks to the waiters who were always ready to greet newcomers and to offer coffee. All in all, I was pleasantly surprised (I know I sound condescending but my praise is genuine) and I would definitely come back if I were in town for a short period of time.…
I loved this quirky old hotel. It is old fashioned in the best possible sense; very well situated close to the train station, the Duomo and the centre of Florence - so a perfect location for shopping and sightseeing. The rooms could do with some refurbishment but are air conditioned, kept very clean, and everything works. Doubles are generous in size, single rooms are small. Breakfast is continental with cheese, ham, muesli, croissants, cake, coffee, tea, hot chocolate and detox water. Most importantly, the staff here were unfailingly courteous and helpful. They really could not do enough for us, from letting me borrow an adapter, to recommending excursions, booking taxis, and accommodating a late check out. There are trendier, more modern hotels in the area, but that is reflected in the price - you get what you pay for.…
I do not recommend this hotel. The staff don't really seem to care about their guests. Loud construction noise outside the room that the hotel staff knew about but didn't tell me when putting me in the room. Refused to remedy the situation in any way when I complained. The noise was around 8am so in the hotel's eyes, I shouldn't be complaining. I don't know about other's, but I pay for a restful experience until check-out time at 11am. I work remotely until late hours so it's important for me to be able to sleep in. Building itself is old and gross. It's also an absolute maze. I got lost in the halls more than once. The rooms were okay. Location is central and convenient. Breakfast was crap.
The hotel is a short walk from the train station, restaurants, and shopping. The staff is very friendly. The hotel is clean, quiet, and comfortable. The room was nice. The AC was outstanding! We really enjoyed staying at this hotel because it was so easy to visit nearby restaurants and shops. The hotel has a nice breakfast area too!
Old, shabby, falling apart hotel with damp smell in the room. Desperatly needs renovation. Poor breakfast . If I have to mention something positive, then it's location. Unfortunately, can't recommend.
This is not a luxury hotel and we didn't expect it at the price; however, it is comfortable, the staff are very friendly and helpful and the hotel is both on the edge of the old centre of Florence (10 minutes' walk from the Duomo) and 1 minute from the Unita tram terminus - which is a direct link to the airport. My one criticism? The coffee with breakfast was poor - very bitter - and I would rather they added a couple of euros to the price and served the excellent coffee we drank elsewhere.
If you arrive at the hotel by car, be careful! The garage is in an restricted zone, so your stay needs to be reported to the police. The staff demands additional money for this. If you do not agree (as I did) you will be fined. In addition, the hotel refused to give me confirmation that I stayed with them. A strange way to make money.
