We stayed in Ottaviani for a couple of nights whilst travelling Italy, on arrival the man behind reception was quite helpful and showed us a few places around Florence to visit. First impression it looked like this hostel was going to be okay HOWEVER, we soon found out that we were wrong. Shortly after we arrived at the hostel I...

My brother and I stayed there on our first night. It was Friday so we had a hard time finding a place, and this one was available. Location is very good, right at the city center, rooms were okay; we paid for a shared room that was actually just 3 beds. Shower was horrible, temperature changed all the time, too...

I went with three other 20 year old females and let's just say we will Not be recommending this to others. While we had no problems with safety, we did not feel that way. The first night we could hardly sleep due to the thin door that easily could have been broken into. Also we all thought we were going...

We were in Florence for three days and two nights and stayed in this establishment. I have nothing that I can compliment about this hostel. Everything was HORRIBLE. The building is old, disgusting, dirty, and extremely overpriced. The people are rude, the beds are so springy you cannot sleep, the bathrooms are absolutely disgusting, and the internet is not to...

ALL TRAVELERS SHOULD STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! It is not qualified to be a hotel or a hostel. All the photos are FALSE ADVERTISEMENTS! The place is extremely dirty, old, and completely unkept. The shared bathrooms were so gross we could not use them. We booked online in a rush for one night and paid USD $100 - it...

Firstly the hotel is in an excellent location - few minutes walk from major places such as the central station and the Duomo. The staff were friendly. We also booked a room with a shared bathroom and were given one with a private bathroom which was a nice surprise. However, the toilet didn't flush and the plug in the sink...

The 'deluxe' room consisted of a bed with about six inches between the edge of the mattress and each wall of the room, you could barely fit a suitcase on the available floorspace. Stayed in either room 10 or 11 - hard to tell because it had both numbers written on the outside door with one crossed through in pencil,...

OK, It's $56 a night in Florence Italy...so what do you expect, right? Well....I never expected the little guy behind the counter to act like we were checking into an exclusive Italian resort hotel! Granted we got in late, around midnight, but I let them know we would be arriving late. He proceeded to give us lip about not calling...

We stayed 2 nights and had a series of unfortunate events mar an otherwise fairly pleasant experience. The first night, there was a loud fight at the "front desk" that resulted in an angry (and possibly drunk?) patron pulling the fire alarm. The night receptionist didn't know the password to turn it off so it sounded for multiple hours until...

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.

“They aren't bunk beds, they are just single beds in a row but there is no real place to store your luggage other than under your bed. I would suggest asking the desk attendant for a map and about interesting places around the city, it will be very helpful, trust me.”
