As someone who usually stays in "branded" hotels because of the consistent quality, I took the recommendation of a friend and stayed here instead. I was not disappointed!! The hotel has opulent touches throughout - marble busts in niches, antique furnishings, old-master style paintings in the sitting rooms. It was 2-3 minute walk from main train station, so it made...

Hotels are generally pricey in Florence and this one is no exception, however I didn't feel like we were overcharged in comparison to other 4 star hotels and would come back and stay again. Reception & staff The service at the hotel was good, they spoke fluent English and the breakfast room was particularly nice, with old paintings of Florence...

Stayed in the honeymoon suite (room 621) for a few nights at the end of July 2011. Everything about the Santa Maria Novella was perfect - the helpful staff, the beautifully decorated rooms and hallways, the great location and our fantastic balcony overlooking the square and the Santa Maria Novella itself. The suite was large, with a seperate bedroom and...

Pro's - Very nice location, fancy lobby and lobby rooms, big bathrooms in white marble, nice restaurant place with numerous paintings of Florence. Contra's - 2 days before arrival we with our friends received the emails that card authorization didn't work and hotel doesn't guarantee the booking any more. As solution we were suggested to send the both sides of...

The hotel is very well located, right in the square with the same name. Our room was very nicely decorated and very confortable. We were lucky enough to get one of the few rooms with a balcony facing the square and the church (plus with a bathtub). That made an enormous difference at the end of the day because we...

Although I have been in Florence a couple of times, I couldn´t really remember the Plaza Santa Maria Novella. So I could also not remember that it was a pedestrian area. The perfect spot for a charming little hotel surrounded by some nice restaurants with terraces and just the locals hanging around in the evening. The Santa Maria Novella is...

The hotel was well situated ovelooking the Piazza Santa Maria Novella. The room allocated was a superior room on the first floor overlooking the Piazza. The room was quiet and pleasant. The hotel is well located approximately 5 to 10 minutes from the train station. When leaving the station walk through the taxi rank and down the side of the...

Easy walk from the train station...just make sure you have a walking map when arriving...the hotel sign is quite small. Knowing we had booked a basic room, we weren't expecting much and were pleasantly surprised by the size of our room and the view of the square and cathedral. Wifi connections were a problem in our room, but no problem...

My son and his wife honeymooned in Florence last month and I had made all the arrangements in advance. The hotel staff was incredibly helpful to me with the booking and room selection and everything went smoothly. The couple LOVED the hotel and were thrilled that their room looked out onto the facade of the Cathedral. I can't say enough...

We stayed at the HSMN for 7 nights in the middle of our two-week Italian honeymoon and it was truly lovely. They upgraded us to the honeymoon suite which has a private terrace overlooking the piazza and is bigger than apartments I've lived in. The staff was helpful for getting reservations and printing out our online tickets. The breakfast is...

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
