Stayed for 4 nights over Easter with partner and friends. Hotel is situated on the Piazza de Santa Maria Novella which is a stone's throw from the station, handy if coming in by train or if arriving at Pisa airport and taking coach transfer to station, whereby only 2 minutes walk. The large square is vibrant, full of families, a...

The Santa Maria Novella is a beautiful hotel in Florence. It is very near the train station, which is good for meeting tours. The bell hops and waiters were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast in the morning was wonderful. However, the front desk staff was aloof. When I needed assistance with the Internet, the desk clerk told me, "one...

All non-front desk staff were personable and helpful. I dreaded having to ask the front desk for anything. They all were stiff and made you feel that you were bothering them and this included managers. Upon check out no one even bothered to ask how our stay was. I will not be recommending this hotel to anyone.

From Florence airport via a 10 minute bus journey (or taxi if you prefer) to the train station in Florence, the hotel is an easy 200+ metre walk in a straight line across the Piazza Santa Maria Novella. Plush, clean and welcoming as soon as you enter, the staff greet you in a friendly and helpful manner, and the bellboy...

The hotel is right on the Piazza Santa Maria Novella near the famous cathedral and only a 5 minute walk from the train station. The square is buzzing with activity and many local vendors selling food, wine and gelato but was not distracting while in the room. The hotel is very clean and well maintained. The room was very nice...

Location was great - walking distance from the rail station, close to all museums, piazzas, shops and restaurants. Breakfast was above average but the services was very average. arrived at the posted check in time but needed to wait 1.5 hours for our room. recommended based on location, food and price for Florence.

Very large, bright room (6th floor), facing the Santa Maria Novella Piazza and church. Beautiful, functional and impressive. Breakfast was fabulous. Within 5 minute walk to the train station (we used the underground passage) so very convenient. 10 minute walk to the Dumo and all the sights, restaurants, museums. No WIFI in our room, dissappointing. Oh, take a compass to...

Location: It's great if you are going to travel to other cities because it is just 5 minutes away from the Santa Maria Novella Train Station. Florence is also small enough that you can walk to all the major attractions from this hotel. Room: Very clean, although a bit snug after the baby cot was added (free) for our 3...

After walking all day in Florence, returning to our beautiful hotel and soaking in the huge tub was heaven. Our room was so beautiful and comfortable that it was our own little bit of Florence. From the leisurely breakfasts to the professional staff to the lovely sitting areas I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Florence. I loved people-watching...

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Santa Maria Novella from March 23, 2011 through March 30, 2001. We worried that eight nights in Florence might be too much. It wasn’t. We worried that staying in one room so long might be tiresome. It wasn’t. The hotel is in close walking distance to everything (within 25 minutes) and yet...

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
