This was a great hotel to begin our trip. The location was fairly centrally located, essentially between the Ponte Vecchio and the Duomo. Easy walking distance to Santa Croce (~15 mins), the Academia (~10 mins), the Uffizi (~5 mins), etc. The two restaurants right next...More

Florentia, as it was called by Latins, is permeated by an eternal beauty spread in all corners of the city. The historic center is characterized by the immensity of the Duomo, able to transport tourists into the brightest age of Florence: the Renaissance. Who does not know the Brunelleschi Dome, San Giovanni Baptistery and the Giotto’s Campanile? Everything is enclosed here and it would be easy to imagine the city
as it was in ancient times, with maids walking in the main square and horses carrying coaches. Nowadays, roads are busy with street artists. Rustic Tuscan bakeries give way to fashion shops; just stop for a few minutes in the middle of Piazza della Repubblica to enjoy the colors and sweet melody of the carousel that will bring back great memories from anyone’s childhood.

Unfortunately Florence is always full of tourists but October is a much better month than in the summer. Because many colleges have study abroad programs based in Florence, there is a steady influx of college aged people.. You should book tickets now for the Uffizi and the Accademia if you are planning to see either one. Print the confirmation and take it with you to exchange for tickets at the location or the Davanzati will do it for you if you ask and the confirmation will be on the ipad they provide for you.

Best suggestion would be to call the hotel directly because in Europe they are a little particular about the number of people in a room. Our room in Davanzati was huge and easily accomodated 4 of us. But my kids are only 9 and 6. The hotel is in the heart of the city so the outside view is nothing to talk about much.
