Friendly staff. very small room and bath with thin walls. There is no air conditioning in October and the unit in the room is changed to only put out heat. The air is nice if the windows are opened but there is a close by mosquito infestation. The room tended to become stuffy. There is an excellent restaurant nearby called...

Merely 10 min walk from the main station, a perfect location for people targeting budget hotels. Do not expect the word 'grande' here'; instead, you would find a humble small hotel with warm welcome. The staffs speak good English, they would do their best explaining you on how to go there/a good place to visit, etc. One thing I do...

We stayed at the Hotel Vasari for 3 nights from 24th-27th of September. The hotel is very close to the station which made it very easy for us to find. Upon arrival the hotelier told us about some of the local event which were tking place over the weekend - local wine fesitval etc - this was a nice touch...

I spent 5 nights in Hotel Vasari Palace. The hotel has an excellent location, close to Sta Maria Novella train/bus station which makes it possible for you to use the Volainbus for transfers from/to Florence airport( Eur 5/pers/one way) . Then in about 5 min you are at the hotel. It is also very convenient if you book a trip (all trips...

This is one of those oasis' you hope for when travelling! This hotel is 1/2 a block from the train station but it's very quiet. The rooms are quite comfortable - almost luxurious, bathrooms clean & well appointed, and excellent air conditioning in summer. Their continental breakfast is extensive with a separate coffee bar to order your favorite made fresh...

I stayed here with a friend for 4 nights and we spent very little time in the hotel, using it as a base for sightseeing, of course. The hotel was very clean, the beds were some of the comfiest I have ever slept in and breakfast was great - plenty of fresh pastries, fruit and charcuterie. It is likely that...

Hotel Vasari is fantastically located for the station and town centre. We arrived after an over-night train journey from Munich and were extremely grateful for the 3 minute walk to the hotel! The building itself is brilliant and quirky. The rooms were bright and airy with tall ceilings and the classic shuttered windows. Breakfast was great and there is free...

I had the occasion to stay at this hotel during our holiday in Italy. Our stay was very comfortable. The rooms are reasonably large and well furnished. The beds are very comfortable. The bathroom was clean and large (compared to Roman hotels). The staff there was particularly friendly, efficient and courteous. In particular, Jasmin was always smiling. The breakfast had...

We paid Euro 260 for five nights in December. The room is quite large and adequate and the hotels location is good - about a 10-15 min walk from the Dumo and 15-20 from the Uffizi. The buffet breakfast is good (you get well made tea of coffee if you ask for it as well) and the building is interesting...

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
