The best thing about this hotel is the people who work at it. There was a little bit of a mix up with our room when we first arrived and Marcella, who was there to check us in, did everything possible to fix the problem. She was very friendly and sensible and her humor just made it all seem okay. Marcella went out of her way to help us with directions, writing out a walking route and giving insight on nearby dining. The housekeeper, I am so sorry that I do not know her name, was very hard working and just as accommodating to our needs. Stefano, who also worked at the desk, did not have a great command of English, but he cheerfully helped us with a few Italian words and gave us some helpful tips.
Cost of a taxi from Novella Train Station is 15 - 20 Euro. Drivers will approach at the station offering to take you, but be mindful, the cost should be under 20 Euro to this hotel. Hotel Bologna is located in more of a residential area, about a 15-20 minute walk to the city sights. There is a bus which we did not use. The walk was pleasant, however, it was far enough away that we were careful to bring everything we needed to take us into the evening, so we did not have to return.
There is a little coffee shop next door, but no other restaurants for a meal. They are all a good 15 minutes walk away. At the end of the street, along the river, we found an outdoor cocktail bar. It was too cold for us to sit out for a drink, but we were so happy it was open late at night and served us a hot tea which we drank on our walk back to the hotel.
Our room was a good size and was quiet and clean. We were FOUR adults in one room and managed with a queen size bed and two twins. There is very little drawer space to unpack clothing and no counter area in the bathroom for toiletries. Beds were very comfortable and linens fresh. The room was tidied daily and towels replaced. The heat worked quite well and we found ourselves opening the windows to allow some cooler air to circulate. WIFI was free and worked well, however it did require logging back in every time. It took some furniture moving to find the electrical outlets and there were only a few, so it took a bit of sharing to get our electronics all juiced up.
Breakfast was buffet style and was included in our room rate. It consisted of hard boiled eggs, variety of deli meats and cheese, selection of breads, rolls, pastry, cakes. Dry cereal, yogurt and fruit. Assorted juices and coffees. The woman who worked in the breakfast area was quiet but pleasant and very diligent in resetting tables and replenishing food.
Truthfully, we would have preferred being a little closer to the tourist attractions, but this was a lovely hotel and the pleasant staff really made us feel welcome and at home. Being a little further away helped our budget and the exercise was great! We would recommend this hotel and will certainly stay again if we ever have the chance to get back to Firenze.

We stayed for 3 nights in September 2013. Room 16 was smallish but comfortable, clean and quiet, with a peaceful view and (unlike many places) a screen on the large and beautiful window. Shower is tiny, so keep that in mind. Continental breakfast selection each day was wonderful, with a large, fresh, and well presented selection. It is a bit of a walk to major attractions but we didn't mind and enjoyed the residential neighborhood atmosphere. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful with recommendations of all kinds. Beds were quite comfortable and the room was a good value for its very reasonable cost. We would happily stay there again.

I reserved the hotel for four days. Hotel assigned a room in the basement with no ventilation and I was unable to breathe properly and felt suffocated. Hotel assigned a new room on second floor. The following day I was about to head out for a tour in Florence but was told to wind up and keep my luggage in the lobby and that they would assign a new room on the fourth floor in the evening. I wasted my time and hurried up to wind my stuff and baggage and left it by the reception desk. Came back at the hotel at 9:30 p.m. only to find out that they only have the room in the basement left out. All the other rooms are booked. We cancelled our reservation and spent an hour and a half to book a new hotel. It is already 11:00 p.m. and I am writing this review from the new hotel. I got bitten by mosquito at the hotel. Utterly tired and have an early morning train to catch.
On the first day the grandfather lied, on the second day the father lied and on the third day evening the son lied. Bunch of crooks with no business ethics. Would never recommend anyone to stay at this hotel. Avoid the only room at the basement at any cost. Suffocating and poorly ventilated.

Hotel a bit of a diappointment afetr staying in Florence. Our room was tiny. Anyway no prob we were warned hotels may be smaller. First floor by the way. Went for a snooze around 5pm, woke up horrendous banging noise from radiators. Receptionist very unhelpful. Eventually got moved to 3rd floor. Again tiny room with no view, just a wall. Felt pretty miserable. In the nmorning spoke to a different lady she was a lot more helpful and agreed to move us later that day. Unfortunatly it put a little downwer on the hol. Piza not great apart from tower. Florence magic as was Lucca. This site is great for forewarning unsuspecting tourists.

We chose this hotel thru the Internet that suited our budget and needs of our family. Although the hotel was adequate we had a bad first impression with a very rude receptionist.. Also a pendant that belonged to my daughter "disappeared" whilst the room was being cleaned. Speaking to other staff revealed that this was not an isolated incident. If you choose to stay at this hotel be extremly careful This experience however did'nt stop us enjoying this beautiful city.

Response from Hotel-Bologna-Fi, Proprietario at Hotel Bologna
Responded 14 Jan 2016
Dear guest, we apologize about the receptionist's rudeness, there are not excuses for it. Regarding the pendant, we tried to do our best to find it, even looked for it in the dirty linen. It really surprises us to know that a member of our staff accused a co-worker of theft; our staff mainly belong to the owner's family and the rest of it is carefully selected. Since this review is nearly 10 years old, we all hope you will consider to contact us directly (by telephone or e-mail) for your next visit to Florence. Let us know you have already been our guest and you had not a good experience, we will be happy and proud to show you the improvements we did, and we promise we will do our best to make your stay in Florence unforgettable. Best Regards Hotel Bologna's manager

I made a reservation for Hotel Bologna in February 2017 for June 22, 2017. The price was 92 euro for 1 night. Florence was part of a 10-day tour of Italy. Three days before the night in Florence, I received a message from Booking.com that my card was invalid and I entered data on a new card. It happened at 10 pm (22h). With this card, I paid another hotel the same day and I was shopping. We contacted the telephone with Bologna Hotel and asked them to try again. We told them we were already on our way, and we would be in the hotel on the date, and that if there was a problem we would pay cash. So three times we called the phone. Finally, the reservation were canceled from Booking.com. This has caused us unforeseen problems! We had to make a new reservation with the "invalid" card, and Bologna Hotel sold the room at a higher price. Extremely ugly attitude, considering that this would be a second visit to this hotel. Apparently not appreciate customers here!

Response from Hotel-Bologna-Fi, Proprietario at Hotel Bologna
Responded 7 Sept 2017
Dear Guest we are sorry about what you considered an "ugly attitude"; we are a small hotel with 19 rooms and having a room booked for more than 4 months with invalid credit card, it's a problem. When we charged the amount of the first night on your credit card to guarantee the reservation (more then 1 week before your arrival date) and the transaction was refused, we immediately asked the assistance of The Website to contact you to tell you that to guarantee your reservation, we needed a valid credit card. In the following days, you entered always the same credit card details and the transactions were refused, as the first time. As we all know, there are kind of credit cards that work only when physically insert into the POS and they cannot be charged without the PIN code, that only the owner know, and I have no doubts that you have been paying shops and other hotels with that card. It happens, that we take the risk of a reservation without a valid credit card, but this is not possible with a late check-in, in high season. After days, suggested by The Website, we cancelled the reservation. We are a family business and we really care about our Hotel and our costumers, since we always hope that they feel at home and they wish to come back again. Moreover as you can see from other reviews, there are costumers that appreciate our commitment and honesty. Best Regards Antonella

Myself and 15 year old daughter stayed for 3 nights October 2013. Reception staff very friendly and we had a quick checkin room 311. The room was large clean and spacious bathroom and the shower was fantastic. We had a problem with the wifi not working at all so the lady at reception suggested that we move to the second floor to get wifi working. The following morning we moved to room 211and the wifi worked. This room however had show of wear and tear and the bathroom tiny with mould on the tiles in the shower which you could clearly see that they had attempted to clean and paint over the grout with white. The shower head was broken so it would not stay up but the water pressure was very good. There is also a high level of room noise it does need better sound proofing. There was extra pillows if you needed them.
Breakfast had a good selection including scrambled eggs and bacon fresh fruit cereals and pastries etc staff very polite.
The hotel is about a10min stroll to the train station less than 5min to shopping area 20min to tower and Restuant are close. The tour bus stop is just at the top of the road to your right
We went by train to Florence 30euros for both of us return. Trains run regularly and it takes 1 hour
The hotel host a tuscany food tasting daily which i think is a nice touch but they should make it clear that you must purchase a drink in order to participate which am sure people won't mind. It's better than my experience which was when we walked in we are then approached and told we must buy a drink.
Overall our experience of this hotel was s good one due to the location and friendly helpful staff

As usual I followed the recommendations from trip advisor to find the hotel in Florence.
The hotel is ok , nothing fancy but large family room for at least 4 individuals. Price was reasonable and the location practical to reach the center. We even parked the car for free. The only issue is the rooms on the front are noisy and the isolation inside is not perfect.
Do not expect to sleep till 10am!!
Breakfast included in the price is well furnished, lots of choices but not at the level of a 4 Stars!!!
Enjoy your stay

We've stayed at this hotel at the beginning of October. The hotel is 30 min max walk from the center of Florence. There was no problem to arrive late in the night at the hotel, because it was a safe area.
The room was big enough, cleaned everyday, the bathroom had everything(hairdryer, shampoo, soap, towels, etc).
The breakfast is at the basement offering tipical italian food combined with continental style (cafelatte, prosciutto crudo, croissant, ham, fresh juices, hot milk, yogurt, etc) and you can eat as much as you want and can.
There was free WIFI in the building, not so good but works(an ID and pass-code has to be asked from the reception). There was a bar in the room and the most important thing it was a safe-deposit box.
One has to pay attention to mosquitoes (in the room there is an electric device for this...so use it)(there were mosquitoes even in October!)
From the reception it is possible to buy bus tickets (if I remember well, it ws around 2 euros), and to take free maps. Not so far from the hotel there is a bus station; bus no.14 goes to the train station.
Useful tips:
-take extra electrical extension (if you have more than 3 electrical devices: i.e. battery charger, notebook charger, etc)
-some times, the bus-drivers decide to have a strike-on a short notice-(we had this "LUCK" in the same day we've checked out from the hotel).
We kindly recommend this hotel for one or more nights.
