We arrived into Florence on the Eurostar Train from Bologna Centrale on the Monday, we had two nights booked in the Hotel Universo before we headed off to San Gimignano for a friends wedding. We were greeted in the hotel reception by a man who obviously had no interest in us, our booking or being there in general. Rude is... More

We went to Florence for the day from Rome and decided to spend the night. The location was PERFECT - one block from the Train station and across from the church. Everything was within walking distance. The staff were kind & friendly. The rate inexpensive. And the rooms were modern, fun, clean & hip. There was no view - but... More

We stayed 2 nights in hotel Universo. Located near the trainstation, next to the beautifull Santa Maria Novella church and 5 min's walkingdistance from the duomo, it's ideal to explore Florence. You will find a lot of very nice trattoria's, restaurants and shops in this central but quiet neighbourhood. Frontdeskpersonnel was friendly and helpfull. Our room was surprisingly spatious, looked... More

Just got back from a 5 night stay at Universo, had a nice experience. Hotel was in a really nice location, walking distance to everything. Breakfast was really nice and the room was nice and big. Only downside with the room was that we found it to be quite dark and our view wasnt especially nice. The staff were nice... More

We stayed in Hotel Universo for 2 days in the beginning of the year. We discovered the hotel in the Internet, and as it seemed it was very modern and really well located (close to railway station and to historic center). As we had big expectations we were just dissapointed with some details, nothing serious, but without them our accomodation... More

If you're looking for a great hotel on a budget, this is the one. My husband and I stayed at the Universo for two nights in October while touring Italy. The room is definately "Ultra Modern". The decor is like something from the future, regardless it was very clean, new, fresh, and spacious. We did pay a little extra for... More

We had a great 4 night stay at Hotel Universo, 5 minute walk from Santa Maria Nouvella railway station and within easy walking distance to most attractions. The staff are very helpful with directions etc. The bedrooms were decorated with bold funky colours and we started off each day with a lovely continental style breakfast. Would definately stay again!!!!

Really nice hotel, very stylish. Good price, helpful staff (all Eng.speaking), decent breakfast. 200 mtrs. from the Santa Maria di Novella station. 10 min. walk to the Duomo. We had a room towards the yard, very quiet. Will highly recommend this hotel to my friends.

Universo was comfortable, convenient, and affordable. The decor is funky and whimsical with modern amenities, a decent breakfast, and helpful staff. The location was great - minutes from the Duomo or Santa Maria Novella Station, and quite quiet. I highly recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

We had a large and clean room and en suite in this excellently located hotel. The staff were really nice and very helpful, they also spoke good English. Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
