Good place to stay for 2. Marble floors and almost sterile bathrooms are rather rare sight in hostels. Location, on one hand is a great advantage of this place- it's close to the center and main station; but on the other hand it's also Giglio's biggest weekness due to big traffic in the neighbourhood. But it's still small price to...

When we arrived the guy was very nice, showed us our room. There is no elevator so prepare to carry your luggage upstairs. The rooms were very clean, and so was the shared bathroom. Its supposed to be a bed and breakfast, but not the bed and breakfast Americans are used to with a buffet in the morning. In the...

A very strange place with no reception , we received an email that gave us a code to enter the building then there were directions of how to get to our room. A very quiet place , with two bathrooms and extremely good wifi which was great , everything was extremely clean and our room was very cosy and had...

My mom and I stayed here together in the room overlooking the busy main street. The noise blocking windows do an excellant job (though you may wish to have ear plugs). The two bathrooms were always SUPER clean and having bidets available after a morning of stickey walking is fantastic. The owners were great -they were unobtrusive but available for...

The location is quite far from the centre in terms of Florence, but then again in any other city I would be saying it is bery central, so I can't really fault the place there. Unfortunately the air-con only worked in one of the rooms so two of the 5 of us were very hot at night! Also, there was...

This charming hostel is contained within a small area. There are about 4 rooms and 2 bathrooms which were cleaned regularly and thoroughly. Our room was quite nice and even had a television, although all the channels are in Italian hehe. The air-con was a bit weak but eventually it kicked in. Breakfast is pre packaged and not great but...

The rooms are basic, but they are clean and reasonably priced. There are two bathrooms, adequate to share with other guests. The best thing about the guesthouse is that it doesn't cost the earth and the 15 minute walk from the historic centre of the city is a good way to work off dinner. Luxurious it isn't. This is fairly...

You get what you pay for. Very basic, bare esentials. Cold water showers! Mini kitchen with cooking facilities/fridge inside a cupboard. Included breakfast is prepacked. Two bathrooms/toilets to share-should be time limit to allow for guests that are inconsiderate! A word of warning-if you wash out your clothes and you are in a backroom, beware of hanging them on the...

The nice thing about this place is the location. It's right next to the train station. There isn't any 24 reception. And it's more of the basic hotel. I imagine hostels to be more of a social atmosphere, but there is no common gathering place. It's just the rooms and the bathrooms. The nice thing about it was tour of...

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
