We stayed here back in August, and I thought I'd posted a review, but it does not appear, which is why this is first appearing now. We spent three fabulous nights at the Palazzo Alfani, and would be hard-pressed to recommend it more highly. The location is excellent - literally opposite the Accadmia, around the corner from Piazza San Marco...

Location, cleanliness, beautiful, friendly. This may be the best value I've ever experienced in a hotel. Basically, you are renting a luxury, fully appointed flat in a 16th century Italian residence, with a delightful and knowledgeable concierge, directly (and I mean directly) across the street from the Academia museum. The flat was large and airy w full kitchen, marble bath...

I would stay nowhere else in Florence. The residence is very centrally located, directly across the street from the Accademia, and a 5 minute walk from the Duomo. Francesca is very pleasant and accomodating, with maps of Florence and restaurant suggestions. The apartment consists of 2 large rooms, one a living/kitchenette, the other the bed room. The bathroom is off...

Four of us (two very well-traveled couples) stayed in the 2-bedroom/2-bath deluxe San Giovanni Suite for eight nights. The place was spacious, clean and very well appointed with all of the modern conveniences. The Palazzo is located directly across the street (a mere 10 paces) from the Accademia Gallery where "David" resides and barely a five minute walk to the...

We stayed for 8 wonderful nights at the Palazzo Alfani. This was our third trip to Florence and the accommodations at the Palazzo Alfani and the owner made this the best trip yet. The suite was beautiful and windows looked out on a central courtyard or the Accademia Gallery. From the windows you can also see the Duomo. The apartment...

We stayed for 3 nights. The building is centrally located. Our apartment overlooks a small garden, it is a homey, spacious, well equipped and very clean apartment. It has a good size kitchen but we feel that the bathroom is rather small with no bathtub. The living room is large and airy, we love the free wifi internet, and would...

Just returned from a family vacation with my wife and teenage son to Italy. We stayed for two days at the (self service apartment) Palazzo Alfani in Florence. We were originally booked for three days but had to change our reservations at the last moment. The proprietor, Francesca Alfani was a dream. She could not be more helpful in making...

Francesca is the host and was incredibly helpful with great restaurant choices. She made us feel very welcome and answered all of our questions patiently. We stayed in the Superior and Classic Suites with our teenage son The rooms were tastefully decorated and huge. Our bedroom in the classic had the original fresco. The kitchen in the Superior was great...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The pleasant atmosphere of this residential area, a stone’s throw away from the Duomo of Florence, surprises everyone. A continuous flow of backpacking students provides the tranquil surroundings for the elderly residents who sit in Piazza San Marco to read the daily newspaper. Home to several universities, including the Academy of Fine Arts, San Marco is one of the most vibrant cultural centers in the city. A bridge connecting the modern cultural activity of Florence to its classic art, represented by the everlasting magnificence of the original David, resonates as a symbol of Florence and of Italy as a whole. Get lost in a Neoclassic world, a journey back in time through historic buildings like Spedale degli Innocenti (Hospital of the Innocents), San Marco church, Basilica della Santissima Annunziata, and natural jewels like the Botanical Gardens.
