Food was fantastic as was the young bartender. Middle-aged woman at front desk was rude and snooty. Her answer to everything was NO. I have always loved Relais hotels but because of this woman, I question if they have lowered their standards of friendliness and hospitality.

This was our first stay in San Gimignano. The hotel is basic for a 4-stars and was winding down for the end of season. It is a fantastic to stay in if you want a base rather than resort style hotel. Plenty of restaurants nearby in the main town. Taking a car in San Gimignano is impossible so this hotel... More

Thank god for GPS , otherwise we might have wandered the area looking for this place a lot longer. Beautiful setting and views. A short walk to the old city walls and all the sites therein. Staff were friendly and helpful. Cleaning staff did a marvelous job each day and the wait staff personally served you whatever hot morning beverage... More

Our 4th or 5th visit to San Gim, all but one overnight stays, but 1st time at this hotel and 1st San Gim visit that wasn't in the Summer. Hotel is in s great location, just maybe 5/10 mins walk down from the Town itself. Easy to find and easy to park; pull in off the street and there's parking,... More

This is my third time staying there, and each time has been great. The only regret, was only spending two nights in San Gimignano and staying at the Relais Santa Chiara. A perfect spot for exploring the region and coming back to enjoying the beautiful city of San Gimignano after most of the tourist have left for the day. Our... More

Just checked in on our honeymoon. We ordered a classic view with a room. Should be listed as a closet. No storage and no room to move around the bed. Plus is a nice sized balcony. At reception, they offered us an upgrade (for 40 euro/nite - wow way to treat honeymooners). Even though they told us hotel wasn't busy... More

We stayed here from 04/10/2016 to 11/10/2016. What a hidden gem! Set in a quiet, peaceful location just outside the old town walls of San Gimignano with spectacular views over the Tuscan vineyards and olive groves. All the staff are extremely well informed, helpful and pleasant. The rooms are very well equipped with everything you need; we had a superior... More

Great hotel Within a short walk (5-8mins)of the walled town. They recomend about 10 restaurants on their map for you and offer the best sightseeing opportunities for you. Rooms are a little out dated but a great size. The hotel has great views of the country side and valley. Staff were lovely. I Would spend a few days here not... More

This is a beautiful hotel, with spacious rooms and beautiful grounds and walking distance to San Gimignano. We couldn't have picked a better place! They have free parking, but warned us it might be full as September is the BUSY season. We opted to pay additional for parking. I'm not sure it was necessary, but my husband thought it was... More

In relation to the city walls this hotel was in a great location: less than ten minute walk into town but positioned on the outskirts looking out over the wonderful Tuscan landscape. The southerly facing gardens and pool are also a great bonus for a little relaxing on the sun loungers. The rooms are lovely clean and spacious, not overly... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Relais Santa Chiara is a charming and elegant hotel located in the heart of the rolling hills of Tuscany, between Florence and Sienna. The hotel looks over the splendid, peaceful countryside towards Volterra and is situated just 400 mt. below the city walls of San Gimignano, a town of fairy tales with its 14 medieval towers that testify to a fascinating past. In addition, the strategic location allows one to make day trips to all the major cultural and artistic sites of the surrounding area. The hotel offers 40 rooms, made up of 4 different room types either facing the rear garden or facing the splendid Tuscan countryside. Many rooms have beautiful balconies and our superior rooms have bath with hydromassage. All rooms have air-conditioning, digital TV with international channels, hair dryers and mini-bar. Other services include private parking, a meeting room with a capacity up to 60 persons, Mediterranean garden filled with olive and cypress trees that encompass the swimming pool, which includes a separate, heated mini pool with hydro massage and an inviting and well stocked bar serving an array of beverages and a variety of snacks and light meals. The breakfast is a complete buffet that will certainly satisfy the biggest morning appetite. In the summer breakfast and bar service are available outside on the terrace. Particular attention has been given to the hotel’s furnishings. Some of the most prestige materials make up the guest rooms, such as brier wood and national oak. The public areas breath an atmosphere that’s classic Tuscany. Florentine terracotta covers the lobby which is integrated with a colorful pastel marble mosaic. The famous Serena gray stone is another dominate element found throughout the hotel, like the reception desk and the grand fireplace. Activities available nearby are: walking itineraries departing from the hotel, guided tours of the historic centre, scooter rental, wine tasting (come with light lunch), cooking classes, tennis, horse riding and a 27 hole golf course 18 km away. ... more   less
