What a delightful setting... Just a short walk into the beautiful walled town of San Gimignano.... Tiny compared to its neighbour Siena but well worth a visit. The hotel has a small pool, (not heated), but a welcome sight after a long drive and some serious sightseeing! The setting is perfect and very peaceful. The hotel is somewhat dated, but...

This is probably one of the best small hotels in Italy (and I have stayed in hundreds) from the standpoint of convenience, ease of access, location and friendliness of the hotel staff. It is only a few minutes walk outside the city walls. Staff very helpful with restaurant recommendations.

We really enjoyed our stay here! The staff were friendly and extremely helpful. The hotel is well positioned just a five minute walk to the centre. We had a classic double room with a view which although was on the small side we found really well equipped! A lovely hotel in a beautiful place!

Stayed here just out of season, the price was very good and the hotel was excellent. Really well situated just outside of the main gate to the city ( 5 mins walk). Staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a small room and it was adequate for our needs. You could get a room at the front with a...

Great little hotel right next to the old town of San Gimignano. Pretty good panorama from the rooms that offer a view and a good size balcony. The staff is very polite and helpful. The quality of the rooms are very good too compared to other 4 star hotels I stayed in in Italy. I would definitely go back again

Offering wonderful views of the Tuscan hills and located 450 meters from the medieval walls of the historic San Gimignano, this charming hotel is a lovely place to enjoy a relaxing few days. It is small and boutique, but was very quiet during our stay, as we had only just entered the tourist season. We had a countryside room, which...

We came to this hotel for three days as apart of a 10 day holiday to Italy. After spending three days in Florence we travelled by train from Firenze SM Novella to Poggibonsi. The hotel had arranged a taxi for us to be collected (there is a bus option also) and we arrived in the afternoon. On arrival our hotel...

The hotel has a great location with splendid panoramas and not far from the old town (walkable distance). We spent only one night so the small room was not a great inconvenience (for a longer stay you should look for a larger space). Breakfast was good and the staff friendly and helpful.

Food was fantastic as was the young bartender. Middle-aged woman at front desk was rude and snooty. Her answer to everything was NO. I have always loved Relais hotels but because of this woman, I question if they have lowered their standards of friendliness and hospitality.

This was our first stay in San Gimignano. The hotel is basic for a 4-stars and was winding down for the end of season. It is a fantastic to stay in if you want a base rather than resort style hotel. Plenty of restaurants nearby in the main town. Taking a car in San Gimignano is impossible so this hotel...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Relais Santa Chiara is a charming and elegant hotel located in the heart of the rolling hills of Tuscany, between Florence and Sienna. The hotel looks over the splendid, peaceful countryside towards Volterra and is situated just 400 mt. below the city walls of San Gimignano, a town of fairy tales with its 14 medieval towers that testify to a fascinating past. In addition, the strategic location allows one to make day trips to all the major cultural and artistic sites of the surrounding area. The hotel offers 40 rooms, made up of 4 different room types either facing the rear garden or facing the splendid Tuscan countryside. Many rooms have beautiful balconies and our superior rooms have bath with hydromassage. All rooms have air-conditioning, digital TV with international channels, hair dryers and mini-bar. Other services include private parking, a meeting room with a capacity up to 60 persons, Mediterranean garden filled with olive and cypress trees that encompass the swimming pool, which includes a separate, heated mini pool with hydro massage and an inviting and well stocked bar serving an array of beverages and a variety of snacks and light meals. The breakfast is a complete buffet that will certainly satisfy the biggest morning appetite. In the summer breakfast and bar service are available outside on the terrace. Particular attention has been given to the hotel’s furnishings. Some of the most prestige materials make up the guest rooms, such as brier wood and national oak. The public areas breath an atmosphere that’s classic Tuscany. Florentine terracotta covers the lobby which is integrated with a colorful pastel marble mosaic. The famous Serena gray stone is another dominate element found throughout the hotel, like the reception desk and the grand fireplace. Activities available nearby are: walking itineraries departing from the hotel, guided tours of the historic centre, scooter rental, wine tasting (come with light lunch), cooking classes, tennis, horse riding and a 27 hole golf course 18 km away. ... more   less
