I learned about Frances' Lodge because someone on a US flight saw me reading the Rick Steves Italy book and told me that if we were going to Siena there was a place we had to stay. That happened in September 2014 ... they had stayed there in 2012 (it was that memorable). My wife & I along with another...

Dear Pocket213, thank you so much for your words about us and your stay with us ! I always tell all our guests that the "word-of-mouth" is our best advertising! And in your case it was a very casual word-of-mouth! Thank you again and please accept our best wishes for the New Year! Hopefully we meet you again soon

Frances' Lodge is amazing. We have stayed here several times and it has always been a wonderful experience. The owners, Franco and Frances are incredibly hospitable, and are always willing to share their knowledge and love of Siena and Tuscany. The accommodations are comfortable and close to the town of Siena. You get to stay in the beautiful countryside yet...

Last september we spent 5 wonderful days at Frances' lodge. This is a special historic place that has been in Franco's family for centuries. The gardens surrounding the lodge are a delight, the view of Sienna spectacular, the rooms have a rustic italian charm and at the same time all the amenities you want and the breakfast delicious. On sunny...

Like other reviewers, I found Frances Lodge through Rick Steves' book. Frances and Franco were wonderful hosts. The lodge, in Franco's family for generations, is lovely with comfortable and well appointed rooms overlooking their picturesque property and the Tuscan countryside. Totally romantic and relaxing. On one night of our stay, we had a picnic dinner outdoors with local chacuterie, olives...

Dear Terri, thank you so much for your lovely review! You are absolutely right: two nights is really a too short stay! Franco and I are waiting for your next trip in this area, with at least 4 nights with us !

This is a special place run by special people: Frances and Franco. Order a picnic dinner held outside with a breathtaking view, special wine, outstanding home made food. Accommodated all of our dietary issues (Vegetarian, Gluten Free, Low salt). Please make sure to extend your trip here if you can. So much to do and they will help you with...

I have never stayed in a nicer place. Frances and Franco are the most accommodating, sweetest people you will ever meet. They helped us everyday with our itinerary and drew out directions for us. The food was the best we had on our entire trip. The whole place is spotless and smells like fresh laundry. The view was breaktaking and...

Upon reading about the Frances Lodge in Rick Steve’s blog, I began planning a Tuscany vacation. Ms. Frances, the owner of France’s Lodge were so kind to correspond with me, giving me suggestions of things to do and places to visit. We finally made the trip this summer and stayed at this 300 year old olive farmhouse in Tuscany! The...

We loved the lodge and really felt at home. Frances and Franco are stellar hosts and helped make our trip one we will always remember fondly. The view is breathtaking, the breakfasts were delicious and the jams and honeys and saffron they make on site are exquisite. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Frances’ Lodge is a loverly restored country guest home set on a hill across from Siena. Its unbelievable view looks out over the old walled city from the top of a beautiful hilltop. It is here that, since the start of the 18th century, noble families of Siena kept their “villa”—the country house where they summered from May to November, to get away from the heat of the city and to watch over the harvests from their farm holdings; and here the Owners restored the 1853' largest "Limonaia" overlooking the Historical Garden, as part of a fascinating, rich of History, wonderful Estate, belonging to the same Family since quite 3 centuries. The commanding position of the house with its 360-degree panoramic views, the closeness to the city(only 1.8 km.—little more than a mile—as the crow flies), the silence and peace of being in the open countryside just outside the city walls... all of these features await you as soon as you pass through the gates, enter the lovely driveway, and behold the incredible view of Siena’s skyline amid vineyards, fruit orchards, and olive groves. You’ll be revived by sounds that busier parts of the world have forgotten: birds chirping, cicadas singing in summer, the wind blowing through the trees. ... more   less
