We arrived literally in the middle of nowhere to be greeted by our gracious host Marilisa. We were shown our room which as others have mentioned are simple but well appointed. We then enjoyed a glass of prosseco and Marilissa gave us a brief overview of the property. We met our charming host Ricardo prior to dinner in the "chapel"...

This hotel is a gem. The setting is in the depths of idyllic Umbrian countryside. The rooms are simple but comfortable and well equipped. The environment is unique - with little treasures everywhere. The food is delightful. But best of all is the way that hosts Marilisa and Ricardo extend their warm, caring hospitality to all who stay.

If we had not come here from Locanda del' Artista in Tuscany we would have thought this the best hotel of our Italian trip, so that means Borgo di Capriano is exceptionally nice but perhaps not quite as perfect as some may find. One factor to consider here is the location which is down a mile long very rough steep...

We had the most fabulous 7-day stay at Borgo di Carpiano! The owners, Marilisa and Ricardo are friendly and welcoming. They make you feel like family. Their staff is wonderful as well, always making sure you are comfortable and happy. The food is amazing. Luca, the chef, prepares exquisite meals. We are foodies and are addicted to great food. We stayed in many places during our one-month drive throughout Italy and this lovely place is special not only because of the beautiful location and views, the delicious meals and wines, the spotless and elegant room, the gorgeous restorations, but mostly because of the warmth and enthusiasm shown to each guest by the owners and hosts, Marilisa and Riccardo. We...

This review gives five stars, but Borgo di Carpiano would deserve six stars. Riccardo and Marilisa and their excellent hand-picked crew made our five day stay in Umbria completely unforgettable. The incredible food, the atmosphere, the location... We will return.

We arrived to a clear day, the staff waiting in the drive with smiles and open arms. We were showed to the most amazing rooms tucked in all areas of the castle with soft beds and views of the most amazing valley. The rooms were spotless and the towels in the bathroom were so soft! Amazing food was served in...

My wife and I just spent a week at Carpiano. We definitely agree that superlative are necessary to describe our experience there. Every meal exceptional. Rooms with views to kill for by virtue of the fact that Borgo itself is located in a simply magnificent setting. Our hosts, Riccardo and Marilisa, are the consummate professionals. Every need was taken care...

I cannot wait to come back to the Borgo with my husband. Just spent six days here in a yoga retreat with my teacher and fellow practitioners from Dana Point California. Marilisa and Ricardo and staff went out of their way to cater to our many needs such as, full vegetarian options at every meal and early availability of coffee...

There aren't enough superlatives to describe Borgo Di Carpiano. Magical, magnificent, sensational, you must bring five very active senses to enjoy this place, and you will be rewarded. This is a 5 star treatment without the 5 star stiffness, casual indulgement at its best. Be prepared to drive like a true Italian and find this oasis, you will not regret...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The ancient castle of Carpiano is among the hidden treasures of beautiful Umbria. This small hamlet is located at only 12 Km from the medieval town of Gubbio and 22 km from Perugia. In this pleasant place simplicity, elegance and warmth of genuine hospitality are ideally combined. The Borgo is surrounded by secular olive trees and lush woods in a pristine valley crossed by the Ventia stream. The three stone buildings that comprise it are perched on a spur of rock that ends with an infinity pool of salt water overlooking the valley. In the main building, the old church has been restored keeping the original frescoes and has been now converted into library and conversation room hosting classical music concerts and events. During the winter months meals are served in the large dining room in front of the warmth of the old fireplace while in the summer are served in the small square with breathtaking view over the valley.Home made bread, cakes and biscuits, vegetables from the vegetable garden and a search of quality ingredients, all strictly "seasoned with our own olive oil" ....The Borgo has only eight rooms all renovated respecting the original architecture and materials of the time. Get lost in the woods, plan to do very little, get accustomed to the silence are recommended activities!Borgo di Carpiano is also an ideal setting for an exclusive place to celebrate with your friends a special occasion. In house wine, cheese and olive oil tasting, cooking classes, therapeutic treatments and relaxing massages can be arranged. Horse riding, golf, rafting can be found in the nearby surroundings. The Borgo is in a strategic position to visit all the major Umbrian towns. ... more   less
