Just off the top of the Matterhorn Express II lift is the Schwarzee Hotel/Restaurant. We stopped stopped here for lunch on the way from Schonbielhutte to Hornli Hutte. Nice out side patio with international clientele. Had Rosti Schwarzsee (cheese, ham, egg) & Harry's Salad (figs, prosciutto, Buffalo mozzarella, fresh greens) plus one wine, 2 mineral waters--total bill CHF 64.50; good... More

Stayed at this hotel as the departure and arrival point for a climb of the Matterhorn. The rooms were modern and newly renovated, which was unexpected and welcome. The reason I'm writing this review though is to congratulate and thank the staff - Simon and Xavier in particular - for their exceptional service. Our team left the hotel at 3:30am... More

After a long walk, the restaurant is a welcome breath of fresh air. View is incredible - unfettered lookout onto Matterhorn. The entrees are very nice. The desserts though were not much to speak of with limited choice (disappointing since swiss confections are fairly good). But the main course was quite good, and again, the view justified the price.

Schwarzsee has great views for a lunchtime rest & is also a comfortable place to stay the night rather than in Zermatt. We opted for the room with 1/2-board: wholesome food & plentiful portions. Dinner was a delicious soup, cheesy rösti & pannecota. Breakfast was also good and offered everything you could want. The staff were friendly & efficient. The... More

Food is not bad. But you don't go there for the food. Who would pay 100 euros for cold cuts, a slice of pie, one portion of pasta, 1 Sprite, 2 ice tea and 1 bottle of water? ... Exactly! The view is breathtaking and if you go the you pay for it.

My son,16, is severely allergic to nuts and peanuts and stayed at this hotel while with a travel group. He came back talking all about, Simon, a wait staff at the restaurant that was so cheerful, friendly, and went over backwards to ensure that my son was able to eat foods without nuts /peanuts. The trip was amazing but Simon... More

In addition to the incredible location and the great food, the service was second to none. Traveling with a group of 12 can be challenging to meet everyone's needs. Simon, the hotel/restaurant manager, went well beyond our expectations of service. He accommodated special dietary needs and gave excellent advice on activities and hikes in the area, all with an infectious... More

Ate outside in the valley of a glacier, it was 5 degrees, not a cloud in the sky. We had delicious cheese fondue and cold beers. A two man guitar band played music on request and the wait staff treated us like royalty even though it was very busy. A memorable day for us - skier lunch ambience galore.

Me and my brother stayed at Schwarzsee for a night during the summer. we got in late (around 8PM), and dinner was at 7PM... Tanja and Dave, the managers, were the hosts that night, and they said it wasn't a problem :) The food was really good, the view was amazing of course (you can't compete with the Matterhorn!) and... Cable car to Furi and then on to Schwarzsee. Divine mug of hot chocolate on arrival and friendly staff, not expensive considering location, sublime and dramatic views of the Matterhorn. Beautiful walk back down through Zmutt, highly recommended. Could be done reverse but would need higher level of fitness
