The hotel was quite strange. Upon arrival there was no staff and we had to do self check in. We were a group of 5 people with 3 rooms. We were let into the hotel via the intercom. The computer at the desk required a booking reference or QR code. Our hotel had been booked through a travel agent and we hadn’t been provided with either. So instead we had to manually input each persons details into the computer. This took absolutely ages! After travelling for quite a long time this was the last thing we wanted to spend time doing! The rooms were fairly compact, especially the bathroom. The hotel seems to have spent a lot of money on branded items in the rooms including a yoga matt and other random things - it would be better to have more staff in my opinion! The beds were very comfy though and an actual double bed instead of two singles pushed together. There was also a coffee machine in the room. Breakfast was very basic and seemed understaffed as a lot of things had run out. Again for check out there was no staff at the desk do we had to self check out via the emailed invoice - this didn’t work as we had to pay the city tax so I used the phone at the desk to do this. The location of the hotel is a bit out of the centre but is easily accessed (if you have luggage) using the number 7 tram at the main railway station otherwise it is walkable. Have given this 3 stars due to the lack of staff and it being so impersonal!

On arrival to the hotel, we were told that only credit card or cash was accepted. This took a large chunk out of my stay as we spent quite some time trying to find somewhere to draw money from. We then weren’t given our room number and no staff were on sight by the time we came back but luckily we made one phonecall to sort this. The room itself looked okay and the beds were very comfortable, however the mini fridge hadn’t been cleaned in quite some time and featured some hairs too! I also noticed that under the beds had been neglected as they were thick with dust. I would avoid this hotel if cleanliness is important to you! It’s pretty disappointing as I paid quite a lot of money to stay as I was charged for both children but it wasn’t worth the price.

Dear 901Jazw Thank you for having taken the time to share your experience of your stay with us at Sorell Hotel Rex. I regret very much that we were unable to offer you a cleaned room and that you had such trouble with the payment situation. Your review will help us to improve in terms of our Service. I was surprised to hear of your experience as it does not concur with the customary service policy of the Sorell Hotels. The Sorrel is exceptionally modern and turned out to offer us the best room of the three during this anniversary trip. It is up a hill although that is fine when busses run past frequently. It’s so rare to see drawers in hotel rooms these days and it’s the first hotel I’ve seen offering a yoga mat which I should have utilised. Being in and out of extreme heat and struggling air-con is no good for my muscles. Another first is a little shoe cabinet. All of this adds up to the Sorrel being the best-equipped hotel of the year. We could have happily stayed here a week, if only Switzerland weren’t one of the most pricey countries on earth. It lacked USB points and that’s the only negative and so surprising when they are quite an easy install. I have them everywhere at home. Sorrel is another that chooses Rituals for its toiletries which always gets my attention when deciding on travel stays. Bathroom Handheld shower and good bath with a welcoming duck. Shame it wasn’t clear if that was ours to keep. A shelf above the sink with glass holders underneath. Towel rail holding the usual 2 large, 2 small towels and a bath mat Full-size Rituals shower gel, hand wash and a good-sized sanitiser and amenity kit. Much rarer these days, are a couple of travel-size body lotions. The room had two European beds joined together with bedside tables and wall-mounted lamps. TV mounted in the corner Desk and chair. 2 armchairs and a coffee table Our airy room looked out to the front of the hotel and had a large fan and a cumbersome and noisy air conditioning unit. The unit stopped working on the second day (maybe a full filter?) although the open window and fan sufficed. The wardrobe has a a drawer, 5-6 assorted regular wooden hangers, shelving, and the aforementioned shoe storage. Safe, fridge and pod coffee machine, kettle and a couple of (wine) glasses all added to our comfort. Along with the sanitiser, there was a helpful touch of a complimentary bottle of water. Although when there’s a kettle, my hotel habit is to boil water, let it cool and fill my water bottle with that. And if all of that didn’t make us smile (it did) then there were a couple of welcome chocolates on the pillow. Breakfast served in the ground floor lounge space consisted of an ample buffet, no mean feat when there only appeared to be two wonderful staff hosting us. A comfortable stay ensures we’ve added ‘Sorrel’ to our list of hotel brands to look out for. That’s when we chance upon the opportunity to pass through Switzerland again.

This hotel is situated (in a residential area) at the top of quite a steep hill away from shops ad restaurants. This means a 15-20 minute walk at the end of nice meal. All is not lost as frequent trams run past the front door. There are plenty of bars and restaurants at the bottom of the hill where you will also find the central railway station. Our room situated at the top floor (5) was spacious and had the benefit of a reasonably sized balcony. Breakfast was typical fare served until 10:00. There is no restaurant for evening meals. Reception is closed at 17:30. If you have an issue then someone from the sister hotel will help by phone. If you go down to the area where the railway station is you will find the famous street where all the designer labels have shops so if you are feeling rich....... At the bottom of this street you come to the lake where you can take a number of waterborne trips. We did one which stopped at a number villages so you could treat yourself to a hop on/off experience.

In all fairness, we were there on the hottest day, which made no ac a big deal. I couldnt wait to get out of there. There are no places to eat(except breakfast), no vending machine and rooms are very small.

The hotel is located few tramway stops from the city centre, with two lines connecting it to the Hauptbahnhof and Bellevue, respectively. The rooms are quite spacious and clean, well equipped. Friendly and professional staff. The breakfast buffet is of high quality.

Sorell Hotel Rex is a cosy bed and breakfast at a quiet yet close to downtown part of Zurich. My room was spacious and clean while breakfast was rich in choises and tasty. The members of the staff were friendly and professional. When i arrived there was a Santa's sock hanging on the knob with sweets and nuts as a welcome gift. All in all an excellent choise.

We spent 2 nights at this hotel in October. It is a lovely hotel, great location and quiet! We could walk to the city center or take a tram that was literally at our doorstep. The room was a bit small for a family of 4 but it was ok for just 2 nights stay. The bathroom was small as well and a bit dated but ok. The breakfast room is small but offers everything needed and the staff was friendly and polite!
