I was looking for a reasonably priced hotel for me and my two daughters. This was great. Perfect location really close to train station and the old town. Clean and quiet despite the central location. I didn’t eat at the on site restaurant but that was an extra option. It’s older so not fancy or modern but good value for those of us who need something more affordable.
This hotel is very old -fashioned and some of the furnishings are quite worn, but it is clean. It is located a short walk across a bridge from Zürich's central train station, so very convenient for rail travel. It's also one of the most reasonably priced hotels in the area. My room was partly modernized (bathroom, and there were several newer power outlets!). I would have rated it higher for good value, but the bed was just a bit too poor for that. As the mattress wasn't really comfortable and the pillow extra-thin, I didn't sleep well.
Very good location and staff encountered always nice and smiley. That aside, the hotel was a journey back in the 80s: - low and uncomfortable bed (2 beds pushed together with 2 split mattress); - Wifi unavailable during the whole stay; - low cleanliness standard. Would need a profuse renovation.
I recently stayed in this hotel for one night in Zurich; I was leaving early the next day and needed a place close to the station. This was the perfect place in terms of location: about 4 minutes from the train station and right in the center of Zurich. I don't think I could have stayed here for longer. The room is very basic, though a pretty big size for European standards ( I was staying in a double room, single occupancy) Toiletries were basic, which consisted of basically shampoo and body gel, nothing more. No complimentary water, there is no A/C though it was cold, so I had no need for it, but I cannot imagine staying there during warmer months. The hotel could be better, but is in need of an update, there were not enough outlets around the room. For Zurich prices, I would say is ok for a short layover like I did, but for a longer stay, I am sure there has got to be better options. The hotel attendants, were all very nice and helpful, there is no complain there. …
This is probably the most affordable and nearest hotel to the main Zurich HBF/trainstation. It is also nearby a lot of cafes and restaurants and coop supermarket just across the river. Place was very clean especially the bathroom. Other guests commented that you need to borrow a swiss power adaptor for your room but I didnt need one. The powerpoint beside the bed has a Euro-based powerpoint and all you need is to angle it 45 degrees. I used this because the room lamp was plugged in and working so i removed the lamp and plugged in my Euro adaptop and charged my phone. The bed was super soft and there was only 1 super slim pillow. My room which was at the back felt like it was tilted meaning when I lay on the bed, it feels like my legs are higher than my head. Maybe its the bed. An overnight stay here is ok.…
Great location near the central tram stop and tram 10 direct to airport. And next to the polybann A few steps up to reception. Does not have air con so is very hot in summer. Room decor is old fashioned and basic. Could do with more plug sockets for charging of phones etc. The staff are friendly and helpful.
The Limmathof was in the perfect location for me. It was less than four minutes’ walk to the main station, and steps from the trams (Central stop). I stayed in a single room with a single bed. It was adequate for my needs. The room also has a desk and chair and ample closet space. There is also a bathroom with shower. The hotel is very old fashioned. This is not a bad point unless you’re looking for mod comms. There is a power point where the tv is and one also under the bedside table. The rooms are very clean and there is maid service everyday. You can have breakfast if you want for extra money, although I didn’t partake. There is a luggage room, and restaurant inside the front door of the hotel. 24 hour main desk and Andreas was very helpful. The Coop supermarket is two minutes’ walk away which is very handy. I would definitely stay here again.…
Hotels in Zurich are expensive...Hotel Limmathof is one of the few affordable hotels near the train station, maybe the only. $145 for Thursday night, no breakfast, which would've been an extra $15/person. PROs: -Close to the train station, though it didn't feel that way hauling our heavy luggage at night. -Friendly staff -Old but clean room that is reasonably sized for European standards. -Two sinks -Location on the edge of Old Town with lots of shops and eateries. CONs: -It's older, not romantic -Bed mattresses could be better Overall, good enough for 1 or 2 nights. I'd stay here again unless I'm making more money.
If you need a place to park your bags and sleep when you are visiting Zurich, this is a good hotel to stay at. It is very close to the train station. I always take the reviews that say it is within walking distance with a grain of salt, because what someone else can easily walk, and what my husband and I who are both seniors can walk, tends to be different. But we very easily walked all four days that we were there back and forth between the hotel and the train station. And enjoyed the walk because we crossed the river each time, which was so scenic, and it gave us a little bit of time to stretch our legs after sitting on buses and trains each day. The hotel is extremely basic. But it was very clean and the beds were ok. My husband is 6'6" and he had a bit of a problem. He either hit his head on the headboard or his feet on the footboard. But most people aren't going to have that problem. If you need a Swiss electric adapter - who knew it is not the same as the German adapter that we had - they had them at the front desk and will let you borrow them with a $20 deposit (or Francs). If you need a blowdryer, which we did not, I believe you can also get that at the front desk. We bought CocaCola and asked for glasses at the front desk and were able to get them but they are not going to be in your room. The pillows in our room were horrible. That was really my only complaint. Sean was there at the front desk when we checked in over the weekend and he was so very helpful and nice. We never interacted with any other staff. Each day we left early and came back late and never really needed anything else. The bathroom has a wonderful retro vibe to it with peacocks and flowers on the times. Again, basic, but very clean. We were there the last week of October and the weather was cool. So we were comfortable without air conditioning. We opened our windows each evening when we got back to the room and let the cool air in. There was no way we could have slept with them open though. The street noise was awful. But as soon as we shut the windows and pulled the curtains closed, it was fine. We no longer heard the noise. I could not sleep there had it been any warmer though - with no air conditioning and the street noise if the windows were open, it would have been very uncomfortable.…
Good budget location for a one-nighter, right across the river from the Zurich train station, which is why I picked it. I needed someplace to break my train trip to Salzburg. There are closer hotels, but they are very pricey. For a single, the room was actually larger and less cramped than the one in London the night before. Bed was comfortable. There was a desk, small closet and portable fan, plus an electric outlet right next to the bed. Everything seemed clean. Lovely breakfast room with a terrace overlooking the street, which doubles as a restaurant at night. I also picked it because it has a lift, but to get to reception from the street there is a bunch of steps, so not recommended for people with limited mobility, unless there is another entrance I'm not aware of. Although I had a converter for Europe it didn't work here. Like their currency, Switzerland has it's own plugs. But for a deposit of 10 francs they loaned me the proper converter. I had gotten a few Swiss francs for this overnight, but it turned out they accept euros, so it wasn't necessary. Everyone speaks English, so language was not a problem either.…
