Quirky room on top floor at back with "Sweeney Todd" Barber's chair. Characterful comfortable room with excellent bathroom including really good powerful shower and nice warm underfloor heating. Breakfast very fresh with good juices and selection of breads. Lovely pancakes, scrambled eggs and fruit salad available too cooked by Berry. Everything low-key and relaxed but great attention to detail. Great...

Not much I can say about this place that hasn't been said so many times before, but I just have to agree with everyone else's comments. We recently spent 4 nights at Mauro to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. Lovely large & quiet room on the 2nd floor with swing chair and view across the canal (room 31). Berry &...

A really relaxing place to stay. Amazingly convenient - (when you come out of the station turn left, follow the station building as far as you can, cross over the water and the main road, and there you are!) Very quiet room, with comfy bed and lovely bathroom with heated floor, powerful shower, and spa bath. Breakfast was very relaxed...

This place was a real treat. I was a little skeptical at first, as the red light district is only a 10min walk from the Mansion but it wasn't a deterrence at all. The location is absolutely perfect if you are travelling in by train. However you would need a map to know the quickest route to get here from...

Well informed and attentive staff. Clean rooms with adequate facilities. Of note is that you get a code from front desk for the wireless internet which also works in your room, is reasonably fast aswell. Excellent shower, rainforest. Of warning is that not alot of privacy for toilet in room. Bed is very soft, not great if you have back...

Five minutes walk from the station and you are canal-side, looking up at the 18th century front of what is a much older house behind. Inside is a surprise: the breakfast area is light and spacious (the breakfasts are extraordinary value) and the rooms are modern: black floors, modern furniture, no unnecessary frills. Everything has been carefully thought through and...

A wonderful, smaller hotel near the Central Station. It's very easy to walk, take the tram, train, ferry… The owners are lovely and very helpful with advice and such. The rooms are beautiful, comfortable, quiet and fun. They have great taste! Not for those who may have a hard time up steep stairs though. Ask for a bottom floor room....

The hotel is situated about a 5 minute walk from the station and is an excellent location for all the major landmarks/areas. Room was basic but clean tidy and had a great jacuzzi bath. The staff were friendly, helpful and polite. Breakfast was a basic continental but was fresh and tasted wonderful (you can also choose from scrambled eggs, pancakes...

We stayed here 21-24 March 2014 and our stay was brilliant. 600m from main station and 5 mins walk and you are in the middle of everything. Wonderful view over a canal. Breakfast was lovely and owners very happy to help with booking tickets and giving invaluable tourist advice. Definitely recommend to everyone we know.

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
