The three most important things to me in a hotel are service, service and service. The Sofitel did not disappoint. Good location. Easy walk to Centraal station for my meeting the next day and looking at the map the museums look like an easy walk too.

The Grand hotel includes all the ingredients I like for this level of hotels: perfectly located in the heart of the city, excellent services from the beginning of the stay to the end, charm and character in the design. The French Sotitel style provides the final touch, especially with their unique bed concept.

Great hotel , focused on giving each guest a luxurious experience. All employees were commited in finding solutions/ answers for my requests. Gym is a bit small and thread mill was not operational on the weekend. Access is limited as turist buses does not pass narrow street, but service and facilities were amazing. Real 5 stars.

Decided to have a treat and go 5* on a short break and was not disappointed. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the breakfast is the best I have ever experienced, it was just wonderful, (even though my work has meant many, many hotel stays over the past 25 years). Bed and bed linen were also luxurious and... More

I am embarrassed to say this was my first trip to Amsterdam. It was made because of a business trip with my father. The room was basic, but very comfortable. The location for a tourist however was superb. It is in walking distance of many of the important things to visit as a first timer e.g. The canal boat tours... More

We had a bless. Hotel is well located in central Amsterdam. Buildings are grand and well maintained. Staff has always welcoming. Bedroom was nice only missing a bath tub :( and for that price would have been great.

My wife and I stayed here for four nights in October for a short break. Couldn't have picked a better hotel. Very central location, lovely historic building, extremely helpful and professional staff, nicely appointed room - perfect! Only ate once in the bistro which was very good and breakfast each morning was superb. Nice small bar which had a good... More

Sadly I was there on business and had to work but if you wanted the best of the best hotels to stay in while enjoying all that Amsterdam has to offer then this is the one: unparalleled elegance and service in the heart of the canals and coffeeshops. The rooms are not very large but everything is incredibly tasteful and... More

Although the location is not the greatest, this hotel is beautiful. The staff is incredibly helpful and informative. The building is old but very well maintained and modernized. The hotel offers a 20 minute tour at around 11:00 which explains it's interesting history. My room Is delightful. Very expensive. Restaurant (Bridges) was not my type but the bistros part was... Well, what can I say? EVERYTHING from the beginning to end was simply outstanding! We arrived early morning (about 7:30 AM) after an overnight flight. The room wasn't ready (no big deal) so the woman at the front desk offered us a free drink in their "library" which was a lovely, quiet place to relax and unwind! My husband and... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
