I should say I stayed here in February 2006, but my memories are clear. The hotel has a real presence in Amsterdam and is well-known as one of the best and most stylish in Europe. The staff are very well trained and helpful and check-in was a delight. The bedrooms are very comfortable, clean, sumptuous and large with good view... More

If one MUST have high tea, one must do it at the Amstel Hotel in Amsterdam. Beautiful small room overlooking the Amstel Canal is the setting. Starting with small amuses and either champagne or Prosecco, continuing with 4 sandwiches in a large bread container (salmon creme, chicken creme, vegetarian and pastrami), then a small burger with a cheese croquet, and... One of my favorite hotels in the world. Every one must visit the building. Have a drink at the bar with a view. The Suites are absolutely Royal. Great linen and interior. Excellent Staff and Guest Relations.

We spent three days at the Amstel and the hotel is wonderful. It's a beautiful property, the service is amazing, simply the best experience! The staff was very helpful and the meals were really great, especially our dinner at La Rive. The best choice in Amsterdam. It's a landmark of the city, and you really feels that special ambiance.

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighbourhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
