After finding that the hotel we had booked from hotels.com was NOTHING like the advetised hotel, we had a mad dash to find another hotel at night. This was one of our last options. Nothing flash, rather bored reception staff. We needed a room for 3. I drew the short straw and had to stay on the sofa bed! Very...

Had a lovely 3 night stay here. The location is great. In the heart of Amsterdam within walking distance to attractions. Trams outside the door. Ten minute walk from Central station. Couldn't ask for more. Rooms are small but then you are in a main city why would you stay in the room. Beds are very comfortable and the shower...

This hotel is ideally located close to the centre of Amsterdam. I booked a single room and was surprised to find a small double bed which was great, until I realised the bed sheets were stained and bobbled due to how old they must be. My bed was fairly comfortable. Although the room was small that didn't bother me. The...

I visited this hotel in July 2016 with my wife. We were greeted with a very rude man who made us wait while he folded some paper before we could check in. We had been travelling for quite some time and at 23h00 all we can wanted was to get into a shower and sleep. However the hotel is in...

Went for a short break with my boyfriend, great location, friendly staff and clean facilities, However being at the front of the hotel was very noisy, paid for a double room and had two single beds pushed together and there was a pube in the bed

The hotel is in perfect location. Check in was easy and fast. The room was very small and dark but the worst surprise came the second day when my girlfriend and I noticed several dark red spots on the mattress. It looked like dry blood. We were disgusted. Immediately we complained to the person at the reception desk and he...

Don't choose quite rooms.. They are very small. Location of the hotel is about 200 meters far from Dam Square and 10 minutes to Central Station. Back street is good for shopping. There are lots of famous brands there. 100 meters to trolley.

My wife booked 3 rooms at Cordial Hotel Rokin 62-64 including for her elderly parents. We received a confirmation email from the hotel but on arrival were told the booking had been cancelled as we had not replied to an email. We had not received the email and nor had the hotel bothered to follow up with a call on...

Could not fault Hotel Cordial. It was our first time in Amsterdam & reception couldn't have been more helpful. They advised us with good places to visit & supplied us with many maps. Our room was spotless, extremely small but we weren't there to spend time in room.

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
