Greeted with a friendly smile and welcome, our stay at this beautiful canal side 17th century property was all too brief. Impressive public areas and one of the most comfortable hotel beds I have had, made our stay was all the more memorable.

Our recent visit to Amsterdam was made so special by staying at The Ambassade. The hotel is charming and in a stunning location. The staff were welcoming and so helpful throughout. Our accommodation was immaculate and comfortable. We loved the library bar and the works of art .Thank you to you all for looking after us so well and making...

This 17th century hotel is right in the heart of the matter on Herengracht. The public areas are thoughtfully appointed with some lovely art and great books. Equally, the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Our room was well appointed, although not particularly spacious and we weren't keen on the bed that was something like memory foam and ended up rolling...

Location, food, comfort, bar, views, everything was top notch. The hotel staff were all friendly and very helpful. They called for taxis for us and gave lots of ideas for restaurants and boat trips. I can't imagine staying anywhere else if we return.

This hotel is a gem. The owner has done a great re-do of this collection of old buildings on a canal. The rooms are charming, with character. And there's art, local contemporary Dutch art, everywhere. Books, too -- when the present owner realized that writers were staying in his hotel while on book tours, he had the writers autography first...

This is great hotel if you want to have a perfect stay in Amsterdam with all things to see nearby! Our first stay in Amsterdam, Canal tour, Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh. You feel a bit of the old Amsterdam in this hotel, narrow walls and steep stairs. Herengracht is a beautiful canal!

This is a charming hotel in a great location near museums, great cafes and shopping. The staff is welcoming and very helpful. The interior is decorated with original art and the lounge has a huge collection of original books signed by the authors. I would return to this hotel in a heartbeat.

This is the second time that we went to this hotel, and it never ceases to make an impression. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, and the overall service was stellar! The room itself was rustic but it had modern twists like the beautiful lighting, making the hotel quite different from the others I've stayed in. Ambassade also gives...

The hotel was in a great location next to the canal and near all of the boutique shopping and great cafes. Art lovers will be very impressed with the décor and extensive, unique collection of art decorating the entire place. My only complaint was the size of the room and the very strange layout of our 4th floor room. Perhaps...

Thank you very much for your kind Tripadvisor contribution, Carie. It is with regret reading you experienced the size of the room as too small. Indeed in these buildings , that are centuries old, rooms are not the size of those in modern hotels, but we shall most certainly consider your remarks when redesigning and can hopefully create more space....

Spent a week-end here recentl;y with my wife & 2 daughters. Hotel was excellent and very centrally located, and staff were friendly and helpful - but a couple of caveats: - For a top-class hotel (with appropriate pricing) I was surprised that the beds were not turned down in the evening, and - the breakfast was very poor value indeed...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Over the years, the Ambassade Hotel has expanded considerably. Starting with just one canal-side building in 1953, it now has 57 hotel rooms distributed among 10 of these buildings. Eight of these canal-side homes are on the "Herengracht" canal, while two others are located on the "Singel" canal. Other buildings are in use by the Ambassade Hotel too, but for other purposes: a few houses further along the Herengracht is the hotel's Float & Massage Centre known as Koan Float and 150 meters further along the Singel canal you will find the hotel's conference room. Except for the building at 335 Herengracht, all the canal-side buildings are physically interconnected. So as not to unnecessarily damage the original character of these canal-side homes, small sets of stairs and landings can be found at various places in the halls and in some of the rooms themselves to bridge the differences in floor elevations between the buildings. Over the years, two lifts have been installed, making all rooms easily accessible. The Ambassade Hotel has a bar and restaurant/brasserie called 'Brasserie Ambassade' that specialises in the classical French kitchen. The canal houses have been carefully restored to maintain their authentic character and all rooms and suites have been stylishly furnished and decorated. The furnishings are predominantly Louis XV/XVI style with the use of colourful fabrics and in all rooms and public areas you will find original paintings by artists from the famous CoBrA movement. ... more   less
