If you want a 5 star hotel this is not the place. If you want a place to sleep, a good breakfast every morning, great location and transportation, and the best concierge service, then this should be your choice. You do not stay at a hotel, you stay at a hotel operated by people, and their attitude is what makes...

This was a last minute jolly, and booked the hotel while traveling to Amsterdam . The location is good enough a very short tram ride to Dam square and surrounding delights, the staff are very helpful but with most places I've stayed at in Amsterdam especially the lower end of the hotel availability the staff are helpful enough but can...

Hotel Hortus is situated close to tram stops and Metro stations as well as a short 15min walk to the Centrum city center (busiest Red Light District tourist streets etc). The hostel is in the Plantage district which is lush and green with the Artis Zoo just around the corner. Our double bed room had a view of the road...

No far from the centre, 15min walk. Breakfast is a nice touch. Just wished there was a shower in the room! The staff are friendly. There some really nice bars and coffee shops not too far! Great location. Would stay again

Stayed for two nights at the beginning of April 2017 this cost 198 euros. The welcome by staff was not a friendly welcome none of the staff introduced themselves the older male with glasses was very abrupt and tells you the basic amount of information to get by. Towels aren't left in room you have to ask for these, the...

We stayed here during our visit to Amsterdam. From Central Station you can take Tram 9 and get off at the stop called 'Artis'. It takes around 15 mins. If not, 25-30 min walking from the city centre. Staff was friendly and helpful but too loud sometimes. We did not enjoy our stay here for several reasons: We were staying...

We enjoyed our stay here,it wasn't so far from the city centre, we liked very much that we stayed in this hotel because it was just like the narrow houses alongside the canals and it was nice seeing how one looks from the inside. The breakfast was basic the room was clean, simple. It was really cheap so I didn't...

Having trundled through the 100s of Web sites and reviews of amsyetdam hotels we finally settled on this one. They wee very helpful, answering numerous questions before we arrived via email. On arrival, we were able to check in early , which was a good surprise, the room on first appearance seemed smaller than on the pictures, but all accounts...

I stayed here for four nights with a friend. It was good value for money - great location, friendly and helpful staff, breakfast included, clean and comfortable rooms. I would recommend this hotel for a budget break.

The staff were very accommodating, friendly and made our stay enjoyable. The room itself was adequate for a good night's sleep after full days of sightseeing in Amsterdam. Not too far of a walk from the city centre, and in a nice, quiet neighbourhood. The morning breakfast was excellent, and we felt the whole hotel was very clean. Good value...

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighbourhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
