I'd like to apologise in advance for the possibly excessive use of upper-case letters. My sister and I stayed here for 3 nights. It was SO AWFUL and uncomfortable, there was nothing we could do but cry with hysterical laughter. It was like we were in a situation comedy. First of all, the infamous stairs - they're ridiculous and treacherous.... More

myself and a male friend stayed here a couple of nights ago for just one night. I had requested a twin room however we were given a double. seeing as it was for one night we could cope with this. we paid for the room then climbed the neverending stairs to the room at the top. There was barely enough... More

the hotel was clean, and just what we were looking for. however on getting to the hotel we noticed we had two single beds, instead of the double we asked for. when my boyfriend asked one of the hotel employees, totally deadpan, he answered 'you just push them together and get a single bed'. other than this slight hiccup everything... Myself and 8 other friends went to Amsterdam for our Stag do and stayed at the Hortus Hotel. We stayed in the room of 12 (6 bunk beds) and we ALL agreed that it was perfect. The owners were extremely friendly and accomodating. It suited our needs perfectly. It is a 10 minute walk to the heart of Amsterdam also... More

The staff were very nice! They provide good breakfast; breads, cereals. Coffee is available until 11 pm. Stairs were a bit scary and the room was very small, but that's good enough for the price in Amsterdam. Shared bathroom was clean. There are computers with good internet connection nearby the receptionist desk. Unfortunately, my sleep quality on that day wasn't... More

This hotel is by no means luxurious, but it is a great budget hotel. If you're only staying for a night or two (like me), then you will be fine. The hotel (which is really like a hostel) is located in a quiet neighborhood, but you're only 10-15 minutes from every major "touristy" place/site. For the most part the hostel... More

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighbourhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
