I needed a place to stay for one night between accommodations during my vacation in Amsterdam, and I chose Hotel Washington based on budgetplaces reviews and recommendations. I'd read the reviews, seen about the awful stairs and rather dingy interior but I was not prepared for what was to come. It was literally four flights of the steepest spiral stairs...

We have a baby and there was no for for the first night. Then we were told we were on the 4th floor and I am unable to climb a number of stairs due to an operation. Despite these issues, the staff were wonderful. They instantly found me a room on a lower level, the for arrived the following morning...

The location was perfect as in just a few minutes walk you are in the center of the city. Good cafes around and at a reasonable price. Loads of stairs at a very funny angle. Asked the staff for tips on restaurants and got a little disappointed. Bear in mind you have to pay for the wifi password.

Myself and friend stayed here for a long weekend. The hotel was lovely with friendly staff. The only down side is the steep stairs but other than that, a great place to stay especially if you want to be by the museum quarter.

This is a beautiful traditional hotel in a classic Dutch townhouse. The street is just a few blocks from the famous Museumplein featuring the Van Gogh and Rembrandt Museums. My room and bed was very comfortable and it was refreshing waking up to a very delicious and large breakfast in a nice room with original artworks. The rate was very...

We arrived in Amsterdam slightly confused at the transport system so walked from central station (Do not advise this as it took us about an hour), once we arrived the staff helped us figure how the transport worked and gave us a map so we could get around easier. The tram stop was a 2 minute walk from the hotel...

Set in a nice quiet area that's not too far from the city centre - we bought a pass for the tram and it only took about 10 minutes. Also conveniently near a supermarket and some great museums. We didn't really have much contact with the staff; only on check in and out. They were pleasant however. The room was...

Staying in Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)

Neighbourhood Profile
Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.
