The bulldog hostel was one of the best hostels I've been during my backpacking in Europe. Good location, good breakfast and nice staff! I met a lot of people in the hostel that was really friendly with me. I recommend the free walking tour to know the city better.

Wow! The Bulldog is way up there for places to stay in Amsterdam. Brilliant location and very friendly and helpful staff. The food is also excellent. I would highly recommend this place. I have stayed here several times and also tried other places but will always go back to the Bulldog as it's by far the best.

Great service. Extremely friendly staff. Absolutely amazing location. Uninterrupted WiFi. Can't stress how great the value for money is. There is no other place in the city with such high level of service for the price charged. Highly recommended.

What a lovely review, Thank you! We really try to provide the best value to our guests. Many hotels/hostels try and hide fees until after you book or charge you for extras after you arrive. Not us! No hidden costs or taxes, free wi-fi, breakfast ,linens, towels and the world famous Bulldog Hotel Bar and lounge. so when you've made...

Bulldog seems to own half of the street; they have a gift shop, hotel, coffee shop, bar etc. But a great hostel - and well priced (under £30 per night, which is fair for Amsterdam and the amazing location). I was in an 8 person dorm - with probably the worst snorer I have ever heard!!!!! but it was very...

Thanks for the review. Really great to hear you had a nice time with us. As for the snorer in the room, everyone who ever stayed in a dormitory can relate to your pain lol. Come by the reception and ask us for some ear plugs! Hope to see you again soon.

Great hostel, and great location. Close to Dam Square and the Red Light district. The staff were very helpful and let us keep our bags there even though we weren't leaving Amsterdam until the day after we had checked out. The only downside was that my bed didn't have a plug and I was only able to charge my phone...

great location right in the city center. the hotel's first floor is coffee shop (not a regular coffee shop, but a marijuana smoking shop). If your hotel room is on the first floor, expect to smell the marijuana from your hotel room. The room is fairly clean and pretty safe (I think it is safe anywhere in Amsterdam). The only...

Good place to stay. Group of 8 stayed we felt safe and enjoyed our stay. Room was basic but that's what we paid for but beds were comfy and had our own shower in the dorm. The balcony was nice and can smoke on it as sadly Amsterdam laws won't allow you to smoke back inside in the downstairs bar...

Stayed in a private room as wanted our own space, was brilliant, absolutely loved our stay. Back restaurant feels like someone's living room, would be cool if it had couches and bean bags! Will be back

I loved everything about this hostel other than the bathrooms and how the wifi did not work in our room. Of course there will always be noise because hostels are meant for people to be in and out of, but thats what earplugs are for. We had 8 girls in our room sharing one bathroom. It was fine because everyone...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
