This is a very central hostel which accounts for both things in the title. However for the price we payed one would expect some extras such as a locker or free breakfast. None of this was included. The dorms are huge with 18 people sleeping in one room, the lockers all seemed to be falling apart, the rooms got very... More

This hostel was located right in the centre of Amsterdam and was very easy to find. The staff in the hostel were very welcoming and helpful. Coffee costs €2 which is cheap for Amsterdam, and breakfast costs €2.50 which again is very reasonable. Free WiFi in the bar and plug sockets too but neither in your rooms. Rooms take a... More

Get what you pay for, nothing fantastic. In the best location, literally around the corner from the train station and is so easy to find. The common room is a bar, so good for buying cheap drinks, not so great for meeting people. Staff were really helpful and friendly which was great. Good atmosphere and includes a smoking room. This... More

The location is the best thing about this hostel, there are so many restaurants and bars and everything is within walking distance. The area felt really safe. The hostel was really sociable, especially downstairs in the bar and smoking area, so it's great if you are wanting to meet other travellers. The rooms are basic but clean. The only issue... More

Its not worth the cheap prices. The place is sketchy and its not a nice atmosphere. No keys are issued for your room, instead you receive a slip of paper to flash the front desk upon entry. A member of the party I was traveling with received strange bug bites on her body after sleeping one night here. Its located... More

I've been here twice. I found this hostel a good place to stay because is close to the central station, and you have everything around. you can save money sleeping here, this another good point. if you want a 5 stars hotel, please stay away from here it's a hostel! there is a smoking room if you need and they... I stayed at two different hostels in Amsterdam, this one and stayokay vondelpark. This one is awesome for people like me who are travelling solo and want to meet people. It's not the cleanest place but for how cheap it is who cares!? Location is great as well.

Stayed here twice, both on lads holidays. Cheap, cheerful and a perfect location. If you want just a bed, a shower, and a bar then this is the place to stay. Located right in the middle of the red light district, with the nicest burger bar in Amsterdam opposite. For £15 a night, this is place is ideally for a... More

This hostel was in the perfect location, steps away from the red-light district, close to great restaurants and "coffee shops". The bar downstairs had several plugs, fast wifi, and GREAT coffee for 2 euro. I traveled with 6 of my friends and they kept our 8 person room empty with just us (we were so thankful!). Great staff and relatively... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
