I stayed at the Collector for 2 nights in September. As a woman traveling alone to Amsterdam for the first time I was very pleased with the location of the bed and breakfast. It is a short (10 minutes) tram ride from the center of town and a quick walk to the beautiful museums, opera house, and Vondelpark. It felt...

Karel's place was perfect. My girlfriend and I stayed here for just under a week in late May and we couldn't have asked for more. Great breakfast - great rooms - great use of the kitchen - great location. I'd recommend The Collector to anyone staying in Amsterdam.

Four of us stayed at The Collector for three nights in October 2007. We were two couples in two of Karel's rooms. Karel was very attentive to taking care of our needs. He even let me use his cell phone when needed and bought food as we requested of him (part of the B&B arrangement). The location is nearby to...

My husband and I recently stayed at The Collector in late September. We were very pleased! The room was spacious and very comfortable. Karel took special care to get the things we wanted for breakfast and fully stocked the kitchen. We were very close to the museum district and a short tram ride to city center. The Collector had everything...

Last month I spent several nights at Karel's B&B. It was so easy to find via his terrific directions on public transport from the airport. I loved the area because it was easy walking distance from everything I wanted to do -- canal boat tours, Van Gogh Museum, Anne Frank House. Also, as a single woman traveler, I felt completely...

My Mom and I had a great time during out stay at the Collector. The location of the B&B worked out great. Its located in a more residential upscale neighborhood that is just around the corner from the Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum. It is also right next to the Vondelpark, which is a great place to take a...

My spouse and I stayed for 4 nights in October. Lovely spacious, spotless, comfortable room in the museum district, close to Vondelpark, on a Tram route, good walks all around. Easy, welcoming, relaxed atmosphere, very good, well stocked kitchen. Highly recommended.

We were very priveleged to stay at The Collector for 2 nights. Karel, our host, was very helpful, full of tips and information for our stay in Amsterdam. The location of the B&B was excellent, one tram line directly in front, another line a block away. We loved the decor, clean and bright throughout. The do-it -yourself breakfast was great,...

Staying at The Collector for 3 nights from 3rd to 6th September was an experience we’d certainly love to repeat. We were impressed by the sophisticated decor and the unusual collections dotted around everywhere. The room was lovely: spacious, clean and comfortable and the kitchen was just next door so it was really easy to make a cuppa. Breakfast is...

We booked The Collector based on the reviews and it lived up to all of the comments. If you want somewhere individual with character, relaxed and a friendly, helpful host then this is the right place. From the outside you wouldn't know it's a B&B, there's only a small name plate in the doorway to give it away and once...

Staying in Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)

Neighbourhood Profile
Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.

The Collector Bed and Breakfast offers bright, stylish and spacious rooms, each with its distinct own character: one decorated with Amsterdam School (Deco) furniture, the other one with Gispen Dutch Design classics. Both rooms have an ensuite bathroom. There's a guest kitchen for your breakfast around the clock. You will find a well stocked fridge, fresh fruits, a Nespresso coffee machine and lots more. Amenities include bath robes, a hair dryer, toiletries, a safety box, a guest computer to use for internet and email and there's even a bagage storage in case of early arrival or late departure. Here you will be able to freshen up, too. The house dates back to 1914 and is located just behind the Museum square with the Concert Hall (Concertgebouw), the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh and the Stedelijk Museum. The 17th century canal area is just a 10 minute walk from the B&B. There is direct bus line nearby for transfers from and to the airport. Your host Karel Poels is an active collector, who can tell about his different collections with lots of enthusiasm. You will find those collections in the guest rooms and the rest of the house: unique Dutch wooden skates, branded pins, chinaware, you name it! ... more   less
