I've just come back from our stay in Amsterdam over the bank holiday weekend for a friends birthday. We booked our stay with Hostel world online.

We have just returned home from this establishment after a 4 night stay and both myself and my wife have been bitten badly by Bedbugs. We didn't know it was Bedbugs until we researched the red spots on our arms, hands, fingers and face!! We have...More
I think what made it bad was the abysmal care that the owners showed. They never bothered to respond to my mails before arriving there. They never showed up to hand the keys or collect them. They never bothered to even give me a receipt....More
-Narrow stairs to upstair, which is uncomfortable for me to walk and carry luggage.

This UNESCO World Heritage Site is as historically significant as it is perennially popular. Whether you’re a history buff, architecture enthusiast, shutterbug, or fashionista, odds are you’ll find the Amsterdam you're looking for while roaming around the Grachtengordel (Canal Ring). A brilliant place to get lost in a moody meander and a key component to any sightseeing trip to Amsterdam, this area's major draws
include the Anne Frank House, the Bloemenmarkt floating flower market, an enviable assortment of independent boutiques along De Negen Straatjes, and of course all of Grachtengordel’s lovely canals and bridges.

I emailed the guest house after booking to ask what room I was allocated, then I searched for that address on Google Maps. We went in September 2014 and we were booked in "Herengracht 57" which had a great central location, just a 2 minute walk from Dam Square. The room itself was brilliant for myself and partner (both 27), it wasn't huge but accommodated our needs perfectly (room included nice double bed, tv, fridge, small dining table/chairs, free wifi, space to keep your belongings... and also had private bathroom). We were basically staying in our own little apartment and felt like locals! There wasn't a reception desk with room service but we didn't need any of that (the guest house owners are just a phone call away but we had no need to ring them). Next time we go we'll be asking to stay in Herengracht 57 again! Enjoy your holiday :-)
