Great location, clean, spacious - everything you need and want is on your doorstep. Supermarket, bars, coffee shops etc. Only a 10 minute walk to Central Station. Would consider staying here again and would recommend to others. Thanks Henk

I've been to the Netherlands (and Amsterdam) pretty frequently and I like to stay at the Monk. The location is pretty central to everything that you want to see - shops, "the nightlife" if you want to tram up to other areas of the city or hit Centraal station to move around the country. Some of my favorite places to...

Monk Apartments provides a warm comfortable safe haven in the centre of Amsterdam. A group of us visits Amsterdam every year for the IBC trade show and after a couple of bad places we happened across the Monk Apartments. Since then we have been staying with Monk Apartments for over 10 years now. The facilities are clean, spacious and convenient....

Booked this (apartment E) as our first time holiday rental property - cannot fault! Booking was easy via Amsterdamstay.com, we arrived late but checking in was smooth. The apartment itself was clean, had all the basics needed for the 6 of us. Plenty of room, and the location is the best part - just minutes walking distance from most things....

I had stayed at monk not out of choice but was forced to as my booked apartment turned out to be a scam. The website that I booked from amsterdamstay.com had put me here. The location is perfect, just a few minutes away from Central station, close by the Red light area. For location I give it a 3. Well...

This is one of the best kept secrets in Amsterdam in my opinion and I was actually hesitant about writing this review in case too many people find out about it! I have been staying here every business trip for the past 2 years and have always been surprised at the size of the apartments, if you have stayed in...

I've just returned from a stag weekend where I stayed at the Monk Amsterdam apartments. We booked 3 apartments for 13 guys and I couldn't fault the place. The location is absolutely perfect for a stag party, right in the heart of the red district, near loads of bars and all the other friendly sights in Amsterdam :o) Apartments were...

When we made the booking we were promised an excellent location close to town, free parking, 4 bedrooms, outside space and various other things. We immediately agreed and put the booking in motion. However, much later that day we were informed that we had been accidentally double booked and we were to take another apartment that was ‘very similar’. Unfortunately...

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
