From the outside the hostel looks lovely. Brilliant location! However we were on the 8th floor (twin bedroom ) and there aren't any lifts. The stairs are very steep and after a long day walking around, they can be hard to climb. As soon as we opened the door to our room, there was a smell. It was an eggy/sicky...

Stayed there for a few days by myself in the summer. I can't say anything about the hostel istelf, because I got very lucky and was booked into their all girl/10 people dorm in the building next door. The dorm is on the top floor, very spacious and has lovely plants and its own bathrooms. There are no bunk beds,...

I have just return from a few days in this hostel, the location was very convenient and it was close to the station. I was disappointed that the hostel was shut between 4-6am, this information is not on the website and was very inconvenient because we were a group of 18/19 year olds. The staff in the hostel were also...

The staff are all so rude and dull, you try to ask for directions and they will just shrug their shoulders and carry on staring at the computer. Place is an absoulte joke. The private room we were in absoulte reeked! Of God knows what but it was appalling. Already planning out next trip to Amsterdam and will be steering...

The location of Aivengo is it's biggest drawcard. Located not a five minute walk from the central trainstation in Amsterdam, it's also walking distance from lots of main attractions and coffee shops. We booked a double bed room with ensuite and the room itself was quite nice, it was a huge space and included a small kitchen and couches. Lighting...

I stayed at the Aviengo Youth Hostel in Amsterdam for one night, though I had 3 booked. During the first night I could feel my bed (a top bunk) falling apart as I rolled around on the damp, moldy mattress. The person below complained of the noise, and upon ivestigation i realized that the metal barbs the mattress sits on...

We arrived here so late in the morning, and the receptionist "welcomed" us by opening the shared room door (with the lights off) and showing us our beds on the distance. We had to share 3 showers and 3 restrooms (placed in front of the reception and sharing also the space with a microwave and 2 garbage containers which were...

I stayed in the 20 person dorm. The room was large enough to not feel cramped but could do with power points throughout the room not just on top of the lockers by the door. Showers were a decent size and toilets were a bit cramped but were always clean. The place could have done with a communal area to...

Staying in Centrum

Neighbourhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.

“If you're staying In the 20 dorm room closer to the street side, try and get a bottom bunk in the corner. It gets pretty light in the room early morning, and it can get a bit noisy from the street.”
