We stayed for a week and had a fabulous time. Orlanda, the owner, is exceptionally welcoming and hospitable. Breakfasts were superb with freshly squeezed orange juice, fruit, cereals, seeds, yoghort, fresh bread, homemade preserves, cheeses, charcuterie and freshly baked, delicious cakes. The coffee was very good also and was plentiful. Our room, Suite 82, which was cleaned every day, was... More

Orlanda, the lady owner is a superb host and served us a delicious breakfast with homemade orangecake and bananacake, a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice, fresh fruit, 3 different types of cheese and scrumbled eggs. She also gave us some useful information on good local restaurants in the neighbourhood. Monte da Fornalha is a delightful and idyllic country retreat... More

Very cozy place.Miss Orlanda has received us with lots of cares. Good, large, clean rooms. Spectacular breakfasts. Late night talks about everything, since Portuguese life style to Morrocos places. Hope to get back some day....

We have visited Fornalha many times now, but to spend New Year's with Orlanda was a special treat.....what shall I single out??? ...maybe her sumptuous breakfast with orange juice from her own trees, unbelievably sweet, thought she must have added sugar, but for sure that's not Orlanda' s style.

Enormous room at the end of the garden, downstairs, with huge double bed - fortunate as we had asked for 2 singles which didn't appear to be an option for 2 adults - there were 2 'loungers' in the room which would have worked well for young children. The attention to detail both in the rooms and in the main... More

We visited Monte de Fornalha with our children aged 13, 11 and 6. It is a gorgeous place. We had two rooms - a junior suite and double next door to each other. Both were bright and airy and a good size. We loved the polished concrete floors and super soft bed linen. The furnishings were so lovely too -... More

Charming accommodation and gardens which, in March, were just coming to bloom. Orlanda was a superb host and served a magnificent breakfast. The local restaurant had really good food (kid and rabbit) and was excellent value. Use it as a base to explore the Alentejo or just stay around the pool when it's hot.

It is a privilege to visit this delightful country retreat. However, it is a B&B and you can spend all day exploring the Alentejo and then must venture out again several kilometers for dinner so if the weather is inclement this can be a bore. When it's warm the garden and pool and one's room are a pleasure but if... More

Usually return visits don't match up to one's first impressions, but in the case of our second stay at Fornalha we couldn't have had a more wonderful holiday. The high standards of accommodation, breakfasts, gardens and quirky decoration were even better than we had remembered, and we were blessed with excellent weather Lovely walks or bike rides through the olive,... One of the enchanting things about Orlanda's little paradise in the Alentejo is that we always meet lovely people there. This time, people we actually knew , though from years back . Despite the exceptional weather conditions, i.e. it wasn't perfect, which is what it usually is, our stay was wonderful, we gorged ourselves on Orlanda's figs, green or black,... More
