My husband and I travelled to Newfoundland in June, 2008. We had made reservations with Louie months in advance - his wife Anita, followed up with me regularly and sent me a lot of great travel tips and ideas for the trip. When we got the Airport, our rental car was not available, so Anita and Louie, actually came out to St.John's and picked us up. We knew then, that we were in good hands. They welcomed us into their home for evening tea and blue berry muffins - Anita's specialty. We stayed in their suites for 4 nights while we travelled around the Irish Loop Drive. The suite was great, it was very clean, it was fully accessible and had everything we needed to feel like home. I can not say enough great things about Anita and Louie's Hospitality . Even though we stayed in the suites, we had the option to join other guests in the B&B for breakfast - the breakfast was a traditional homecooked Newfoundland breakfast and it was great!! You will feel like you've know Anita and Louie forever, they will make you feel like you're their family!

Anita is a welcoming and gracious hostess. We stayed at the efficiency unit, which was like a small apartment. After being on the road for a few weeks, it was wonderful to be able to make our own meals in the clean kitchenette. The kitchenette had a stove, refrigerator, cutlery, dishes and assorted pots and pans for our use. The B&B is much more affordable than any accommodation in St. John's and is only a 40 minute drive from the city. The location is easily accessible and close to other destinations such as St. John's, Cape Broyle, Cape Spear and Ferryland. We stayed at Armstrong for three nights. A couple of activities not to be missed around Witless Bay is whale watching with Captain Wayne at Bay Bulls (a 5 minute drive) and sea kayaking with Stan Cook (a 20 minute drive). The efficiency unit was clean, spacious and comfortable. The location to all kinds of outdoor activities is unbeatable. We would definitely stay at Armstrong again the next time we are in Newfoundland!

We booked a housekeeping unit for 3 days to have an affordable place to stay while we wandered around the surrounding area. Anita was a great hostess, and the unit was spotlessly clean and included all necessary equipment for light meals, etc. The decor was basic, but comfortable. We used the unit while we went whale watching one day, to Ferryland Shamrock Festival and lighthouse, and to St. Johns attractions. The price was much more reasonable than staying in St. Johns.

We stayed at Armstrong's Bed and Breakfast for two nights. I was initially a little taken back when we arrived as the property is not located in a particularly pretty spot, with a school bus yard right next door. While there is an ensuite in each room, it is a sink and toilet only and the shower is in a seperate bathroom and is shared. However, the rooms and shared shower were immaculately clean and luckily for us, there was never an issue with waiting for our turn to use the shower. The hosts, Anita and Louis were great, and the breakfasts were the best of our entire trip- practically a buffet every morning, including oatmeal, bacon, eggs, toutons one morning and french toast another. Anita also provides delicious homebaked breads and muffins to nibble on in the evening along with cups of tea. I would definitely stay here again if we were in the Witless Bay
area.

Lodging rates in St. John's are insane, so my wife and I looked for something more reasonable in the immediate area. We found it at Armstrong's. We stayed four nights in a housekeeping unit (you cook your own meals) and one night in a B&B room to which we moved because the other unit had already been booked. We paid $350 plus tax for the five nights. We were very pleased. The accommodations were perfectly clean and well furnished. Anita is a great hostess and very helpful -- even has a phone plan with unlimited minutes, so guests can call anywhere in Canada or the US for free. Wi-fi worked fine too. Location is about 25 minutes south of downtown St. John's (you can also go into the city by way of Cape Spear nearby). It is just a few minutes from the whale watch in Bay Bulls and a convenient starting point if you are going south on the Irish Loop. Just north of Armstrong's is Route 13, a straight shot west to the Trans Canada. We are pleased to recommend Armstrong's.

I recently had the opportunity to visit Armstrong's B&B in Witless Bay, Newfoundland. I originally found Armstrong's through a bed and breakfast web site. I called to see if a room was available for a two night stay and Anita, the owner, told me that the room was booked BUT she had an efficiency unit available, so I took it. When we arrived at Armstrong's it was prior to 11 a.m. and so the efficiency had not been cleaned. We were told what to see in the area and given some brochures about sightseeing tours that were nearby. We went whale watching with a nearby company, a 2.5 hour tour that was reall good. Once we were able to check in we were given our choice of units as there were 2 available. Both rooms had 2 beds, a fridge, microwave, full bathroom. One unit had a full sized stove while the other had a toaster oven. I chose the unit with the full sized stove. The unit was nicely equipped with sugar, tea, coffee, dish soap, tea towels, bath towels and several different toiletries. There was also a propane b.b.q. for use. The beds were a queen and a twin, both were very comfortable. The room also had a futon. We had such a peaceful sleep the first night that we stayed for 3 nights instead of 2. We had stayed at a regular B&B as well as a small (4 room) motel on this trip. I wish we had of booked Armstrong's for the entire time it was such a nice and friendly place to stay. Anita also has a brand new unit that will sleep 6. It has 2 bedrooms and a futon, a separate kitchen and living room.

We walked through the door of our unit and found fresh muffins welcoming us. Our host Louis (of Armstrong;) showed us around, told us of local attractions, then let us settle in. We took a special price for three nights and found great value here. We had a full kitchen, bathroom, two beds and a pull out couch and a side patio to call our own. Not much for shoppers in nearby Witless Bay (drive up to Bay Bulls for more selection) but East Coast Trail network is at your doorstep. Serious hikers should get detailed trail maps before coming since trail head markings are not always evident from the highway.

Stayed here for two nights in June while exploring the area around St. John's. An older suite but well kept up and clean. Hosts are very friendly, even provided a snack in the fridge when we arrived and another piece of cake at dinnertime. Price is very reasonable.

This was an incredible place. Anita is a sweetheart. She baked us homemade goodies and helped us get around when we had no car. The room is simple and very clean and she and her family are well versed in sights and attractions. She made our little trip a special little get away. I highly recommend this place to anyone on a budget looking to get away from the city and enjoy the beauties of Newfoundland. It is very close to a couple trail heads along the Eastern Shore Trail. Also, go Whale Watching with O'Brien's and make sure you see those adorable Puffins!!

We stayed for a week in July. We had a warm Newfoundland welcome. We are a family of 4. Kids are 7 and 8. Our stay was excellent. It was clean and had the basics. We loved the idea of having a kitchen so we could cook our own breakfast. The owners were very helpful when recommending things for our family to do. It was a short drive to the whale watching, grocery store and beautiful hiking trails. We would stay there again.
