This is not your typical experience...and that is the beauty of staying here ! First of all the owner truly loves what he has built/restored...and rightly so. It isn't easy to fully explain Quinta do Martelo. It is part B&B, part Museum (you must tour the grounds), part historical village but 100% an exceptional experience. But be warned...if you are...

This place is marvelous. We were received as if they knew us our entire life. They even offered us local licor and it tasted like heaven. Amazing. We will, certainly, repeat. The garçom was super nice. :)

This was a charming way of starting our travel to Azores. The Quinta endeavors to provide its guest a little taste of Azorean hospitality in the countryside in old times. Guests will find the reception at the “Mercearia” (grocery shop), decorated in old style. We received extensive information about the history and how to get around the Quinta upon our...

Ok so this is a heritage village which has been restored by the pleasant owner who opens it all for free. Some of the buildings are s/c accommodation and include a room or two which are set up in the traditional fashion but still have modern rooms attached. Breakfast we were told would appear in the fridge in the kitchen...

We stayed there a couple of nights. Nice surroundings and the staff at the restaurant (especially Manuel) was very nice and helpful. There are many animals around, in particular a lovely donkey attached behind the restaurant looking for company and hugs. If you go there be sure you don't miss him, especially if you have kids, he is super cute...

The "Quinta do Martelo" is a different concept of hotel. You can stay in rooms (they look cozy and comfortable), or you can stay in houses. The houses reproduce the way of life in different periods in the history of the island, and it's a interesting experience. Two great spots in this place: the restaurant with excellent food made from...

We stayed in Quinta do Martelo for four nights. Initially we had booked a bedroom with private toilet with breakfast included. However, since we were the only guests at that time, we were offered a better apartment (the settler's house) without extra cost on the condition of having breakfast excluded. We really enjoyed this quinta. The swimming pool is beautiful,...

Researching honeymoon destinations we looked at the typical hot spots with no limitations such as Las Vegas and Brasil. We wanted something different yet private. For some reason Azores came up, specifically Quinta do Martelo. What we learned was that Quinta do Martelo is an ethnographic resort with a wonderful history. An old farm famous for producing and exporting oranges...

My husband and I have been staying at "Quinta do Martello" for the last few years. It is a very relaxing place, and takes you back to simpler time in life. All their produce is grown on their property and is organic, they also raise their own animals, the beef is grass fed. Breakfast is simply wonderful, and all their...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
ENVIRONMENT, PEACE AND CULTURE - A LIFE EXPERIENCE "QUINTA DO MARTELO" - The ethnographic and gastronomic truth - The best of our tradition At "Quinta do Martelo", we intended to replace a genuine Azorean rural setting, starting with the buildings and props, to the food, surroundings and ways of life. Here we can observe and experience the entire evolution of culinary culture, ethnographic and civilization of the Azores, over the centuries. To the visitor who comes live with us, it's offered the true ambience of an Azorean rural house. In these houses, we intend to replace strictly an authentic environment, starting with the must genuine construction, furniture of the highest quality, the result of research and survey of traditional knowledge of architecture, decoration and other equipment from the beginning of settlement, without neglecting the more modern refinements of comfort. It is also given the opportunity to show both rural chores and the remaining traditional arts and crafts. The accommodation available, is spread over several houses, all different, examples of what best is possible to find in decorative furniture made in this island over the past four centuries, covering types from the settlement to the last century. At "Quinta do Martelo" we can find the finest cuisine of this island that has been awarded the 1st place in the contest "Gastronomy - National Heritage" and other numerous different prizes. Everything here is biologically produced and consumed in the restaurant "Ti Manel da Quinta" ... more   less
