We have been to Porto many times and for this trip we wanted to visit somewhere different.. We decided on Aveiro which was an easy train journey from Porto. After spending one night in Porto (Hotel Bolsa also highly recommended) we travelled by train to Aveiro. We just loved Hotel Imperial. We decided to pay extra for the suite as we wanted extra space. Our only complaint was that there was no furniture on the balcony to sit out. The outside of the hotel and consequently the photos on line, do not do the inside of the hotel, justice. Of course it is old fashioned but that is precisely why we liked it so much. We loved the character of this hotel. It's all very 1970's. We really loved the fact that it was spotlessly clean. We also loved the breakfast room and the breakfast itself. We had Sunday lunch at the hotel which is very popular with the locals, though we didn't consider this to be particularly good value. It was however good fun as a one off. Breakfast was great. The breakfast room was very spacious, the choice was excellent and the buffet well stocked. This hotel is in a great position the town. The best restaurants are just a couple of streets away. Staying here means you are an easy walk away from the very busy tourist area but in the middle of a quieter area favoured by locals. We can't wait to return. We wouldn't stay anywhere else in Aveiro.…
The rooms are very old, and could benefit from slight improvements. The chair was beyond use, and the mattress was quite old. The carpet also could be better cleaned. The rest of the hotel looked a blast from the past. Nevertheless, our room was big and had a city view. The breakfast was good, scrambled eggs, coffee, milk, a couple of cakes, bread, sausages, yogurts, and powered orange juice. The waiters were cordial and helpful. The hotel in itself is a bit decrepit, but fits well enough the bill of you need to test one night. Bring also in the heart of the city its a big plus. We also managed to park our car nearby, however the garage with whom they have an agreement is not that near if you are carrying stuff, so be sure to leave your luggage in the hotel before parking.
This hotel is kind of old. It is located in central Aveiro 2 minutes from the central shopping mall called Forum. Rooms have a good size. My rooms have always had big bathrooms with bathtub. The breakfast is average and served in the top floor restaurant with a great view of all of Aveiro.
Great location in Aveiro, near the shopping center and beautiful places as parks and canal. Very nice staff. Room was clean and peaceful. Breakfast could be better, but great view from 6th floor where breakfasts are held. Overall great experiance.
I wrote a review of the Imperial two nights past. Since then, I have been moved to a much better room As I said, the staff is very good to excellent. Zara, the head receptionist, is outstanding. However, the hotel itself needs work to be ranked as four stars. The owners and/or top management need to makr some changes regarding organization and infrastructure. Again, kudos to Zara and the staff.
