What an amazing hotel. It is a converted fort loaded with charm and has the most wonderful views of the sea. The lobby is lovely and welcoming. The service was excellent and we were given a quick tour of the hotel. We stayed in room 202 which had a great sea view with an enclosed balcony. I loved this place. I will be back. It is close to Sintra, by car and has free parking.
Stay in a re-purposed coastal fort! This is atmospheric and beautifully located between two gorgeous and empty beaches. Watch the sunset over the ocean from the bar at cocktail hour. Breakfast was good. The Michelin-starred restaurant was a little too over-wrought for our taste - we preferred the more standard fare served in the bar. There are many great restaurants in nearby Cascais. Our room was quite small and dark but comfortable. The reception staff were wonderfully helpful.
We spontaneously booked this accomodation en route to the north. Retrospectively, we wished we could have stayed longer. We were welcomed with such warm hospitality, our room was decorated tastefully and had a lovely sea view, the breakfast buffet was the best we had on our whole trip. We also had dinner in the Michelin * restaurant, another great experience.
Just returned from an excellent stay at Fortaleza do Guincho from 5th to 11th November. This 27 room boutique hotel is very unique. The hotel was originally a fortress which has been convered to a five star hotel. I arrived at night when the hotel was lit up in bright yellow, you could hear the waves and feel the wind as its located on the edge of the Atlantic. On arrival the porter opened the door of the car and dealt with the baggage. The receptionist was friendly and check in was very fast. The room was located on the same level as reception in a very convenient location only steps away from the bar and reception. The room had a complimentary safe and use of a mobile telephone which you could use outside the hotel with internet, useful apps and city tips. The wall mounted television had several English channels in addition to the news. Bathrobes and complimentary slippers are provided and Wifi was fast. The beds were comfortable and the room was quiet apart from a distant noise from the budgie in reception but you couldn't hear him at night. The bathroom was small with a hand held shower but not suitable for disabled due to the large step in and out of the bath. The cleanliness in the room and hotel in general was excellent. There was also an evening bed turn down with complimentary chocolates. Reception was cosy and small with comfortable seating and natural light. There is also complimentary lemon water in a glass dispenser. The bar and restaurant overlooks a beautiful coastline with excellent views of the big waves and sandy beaches. This is the main attraction of the hotel as the views are outstanding. The hotel also has a Michelin star restaurant which is known for its fish and sea food. There is also a limited bar menu for simple dishes like toasted sandwiches, soup, salads etc. A menu is available on the hotels website with prices. A computer is available next to reception to print out any boarding passes. Breakfast was an excellent experience with high quality food. Homemade bread and butter, fresh fruit and orange juice, honeycomb, yogurt, delicious pancakes and a selection of cereal, pastries and cake. There is a small selection of hot dishes from the buffet but freshly cooked eggs and omelette can be ordered separately by waiter service. The tea and coffee was brought to the table with an option of different coffees. The restaurant was very relaxing, quiet and stylish with excellent service and outstanding views, a perfect way to start the day. Breakfast was delivered promptly to the room on the last day due to an early departure. The hotel is located in an isolated location, there is very little around the hotel apart from the beautiful coastline. Opposite the hotel there is an interesting nature trail wooden path walk through the sand dunes with a restaurant at the top which has fantastic views. Hiring a car is not essential as the bus service to Cascais is very good. Bus number 405 and 415 departs from the bus stops directly outside the hotel (on separate sides of the road) a single journey is 3 euros 25, tickets are purchased on the bus. Journey time approximately 20 minutes. Both buses run hourly with different times so it works out as an half hourly service most of the time. The buses run in a circular clockwise and anticlockwise loop so you arrive and depart from the same bus stop on the same side of the road. The final destination is the main bus station in Cascais which is opposite the train station for onward connections to Lisbon. I had an excellent stay in this fantastic hotel, thanks to all staff.…
Beautiful Setting but the options (outside the 5 and 7 course Michelin rated meal) were very limited. We could only seat at the bar if we did not wish femto have the long (time-wise) giver course meal.
"Courtyard rooms are a touch small and the fortress window makes them a bit claustrophobic, check out the rooms on the first floor"Read full review
