Simply put, this is a great hostel. Location is absolutely perfect (though a little hard to find at first, as in every place in Lisbon...you have to really look hard for signage). Also note that you have to take the elevator up to the 5th floor to find the wonderful hostel. The area is safe, friendly, and bustling BUT not...

It's my second time at this hostel. First time in 2011, and now in 2017. It is definitely one of the bests hostels I've been. It's RIGHT NEXT to the metro Baixa Chiado, so you can walk to Cais do Sodre, Alfama, etc, the breakfast is very decent, the staff is professional, is very clean and the room is really...

We stayed in the flat, which is a gorgeous two floor, one bedroom apartment a few buildings down from the hostel. We adored it - one of the loveliest and cosiest places I've stayed anywhere. Like an airbnb but with the amenities of a hostel (free breakfast, helpful staff, group tours, etc.) We did the 10 euro dinner one night...

I spent a day in a private room. Smack in the centre, walkable to most sights. Cfe Brasilera just round the corner. The room was clean and pleasant and the bathrooms too. The people at the reception were friendly and helpful. I would certainly return.

My husband and I stayed here for our first visit to Lisbon. The staff was incredible. Every question we had they went above and beyond to answer it. They helped us craft an awesome visit to Sintra. We didn't love our private room, but for the price we paid the help of the staff, location and common room made it...

This hostel is extremely well-located right outside the Metro station in Baixa-Chiado. Could not ask for a better location - close to all the activity, shopping and night life. We stayed in a 4 bed dorm, great views from the room, very clean. Lovely common area, breakfast included and staff very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend

Pros: Amazing location that cannot get any better. It's right in the heart of Lisbon and close to everything. Clean and cozy with a great common room. The pictures tell the truth, and our room may actually have been nicer than it looked in pictures. Hey okey standard hostel breakfast included. Actually decent coffee. Four clean showers with warm water....

This was my 5th visit to Lisbon and I can happily say I have found the place for my future stays. We booked the apartment as we prefer not to share a bathroom but we had a look around the rooms in the main building and the standards we had in the apartment are the same throughout. The apartment was...

Staying in Chiado & Carmo

Neighbourhood Profile
Chiado & Carmo
The traditionally trendy "Chiado" (literally, "squeak", the nickname of a 16th century poet) offers plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars where you can stop for a cafe or cocktail, after exploring its streets, shops, art galleries, theaters, museums and viewpoints. It's also the home to the statue of the famous statue of portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa, having is usual espresso at "A Brasileira" as he used to. You can also enjoy breathtaking views of Lisbon from the Elevador de Santa Justa or the Carmo Convent, for example. A commercial neighborhood at its core, especially for its Garrett and Carmo streets, Chiado is to this day a mandatory visit in Lisbon.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Set between cobblestone alleys and old streets, Lisbon Poets Hostel is the perfect place to soak up the charm of this mythical city. Located in Chiado - the most happening district in Lisbon - you'll find us amongst the most beautiful buildings which were restored to their former glory after the earthquake of 1755. It's also the arts district - you'll find out what Portuguese street art is all about, as well as many small art galleries in the least expected places, little-known concert venues and the best alternative designer decor shops in the city. Lisbon Poets hostel sits above 'A Brasileira', Lisbon's most famous cafe, and is just steps away from the Baixa-Chiado metro exit. Just beside us is Bairro Alto, the famous nightlife district where you can dance the night away, with streets full of bars, cafes and general booze-filled fun times. ... more   less
