In July 2015 my friend and I spent five nights in this hostel. The choice for this hostel is one we are glad to have made! Its location is wonderful, it being close to the neighbourhoods of the Barrio Alto, Chiado, Baixa and Alfama. Travelling to other parts of the city is also very easy as the hostel is only...

I have stayed in this hostel a few times, and now make it my stopping point every time I come through LIsbon. It is clean, very well decorated with hand-painted murals and interesting decor. The staff are friendly and always helpful. The location is great, with many restaurants and attractions nearby. I recommend this as what hostels should aim for.

We had a great stay! It feels more like staying at a friend's place than a hostel. Really nice atmosphere and cozy living room :) It can be cold in the rooms but once we got our heater everything was much better :D They also provided us with extra blankets. All in all really good hostel, great staff, great breakfast...

Cheap, comfortable, near of some touristic attractions. Nice breakfast. It's located in an old commercial building but it's really very nice. They are worried about recycling the garbage, save water that is cool. The room and bathroom are clean. The kitchen is very comfortable.

Good location, comfortable rooms, lovely breakfast (fruit, pancakes, home made cakes and jams) which you can eat at the communal patio. The staff are super friendly and helpful. I definitely will come back for a longer stay in the future.

Shiado is located in a really good point of Lisbon, makes it easy to visit everything on foot! Rooms are clean. Breakfast is limited but enough for not being hungry.People are really friendly and there is the "hostel" climate you wish to find when you visit a hostel. Wi-fi is not accessible from the rooms but only from the common...

Staying in Chiado & Carmo

Neighbourhood Profile
Chiado & Carmo
The traditionally trendy "Chiado" (literally, "squeak", the nickname of a 16th century poet) offers plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars where you can stop for a cafe or cocktail, after exploring its streets, shops, art galleries, theaters, museums and viewpoints. It's also the home to the statue of the famous statue of portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa, having is usual espresso at "A Brasileira" as he used to. You can also enjoy breathtaking views of Lisbon from the Elevador de Santa Justa or the Carmo Convent, for example. A commercial neighborhood at its core, especially for its Garrett and Carmo streets, Chiado is to this day a mandatory visit in Lisbon.
