I stayed one night at Shiado Hostel and woke up with bedbug bites and saw one crawling on my mattress. The reception was very professional about it and gave me my money back. Otherwise it was a nice place and great staff.

Staff were pretty nice, location was decent - but there was POOR HYGIENE in several of the rooms with vicious mosquitos and bedbugs!!!!! They must take care of this issue before it spreads. Not sure if they are taking care of the problem but they should: 1. put screens on the windows. always spray for bedbugs if there is a...

Loved my stay. The staff were helpful, the hostal super clean and quiet and in a great location. Lots of room in the dorms, with individual lamps and lockers. The only downside are the push button showers, if only they'd last a bit longer. But overall a great stay.

When I checked in, I rang the bell for a long time and nobody answered. I started panicking thinking that maybe I had misunderstood and the reception wasn't open all day, so I checked online on my phone, and yes, it should have been open. The taxi driver saw me standing by the door with my luggage looking lost and...

I was looking through many options on where to stay in Lisbon. I chose this one based on its "excellent" reviews. Wow, was I disappointed. I mean the staff is nice, and the location is okay, but other than that, I wasn´t very comfortable there. I wanted to use a towel, they charged me 1€, and when they gave me...

Staying in Chiado & Carmo

Neighbourhood Profile
Chiado & Carmo
The traditionally trendy "Chiado" (literally, "squeak", the nickname of a 16th century poet) offers plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars where you can stop for a cafe or cocktail, after exploring its streets, shops, art galleries, theaters, museums and viewpoints. It's also the home to the statue of the famous statue of portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa, having is usual espresso at "A Brasileira" as he used to. You can also enjoy breathtaking views of Lisbon from the Elevador de Santa Justa or the Carmo Convent, for example. A commercial neighborhood at its core, especially for its Garrett and Carmo streets, Chiado is to this day a mandatory visit in Lisbon.
