We had only visited the hotel for breakfast, but the experience was beautiful - the building is an absolute gem with such a glorious feel to it! The food was fantastic, service impeccable and the outside area had a stunning view! A very special location that makes you want to come back and stay there forever!

Sure, the entrance is hard to find the first time, so I recommend you ask the hotel to arrange a private transfer. We did, it was 25 euros and worth every penny to be driven straight there and have our bags taken straight to our room. The hotel is just gorgeous. Its location is perfect - you can literally walk... The entrance to this lovely hotel dating back to 1909 is slightly tucked away from the main street and not easy vehicle access, but be assured that the effort to find it is worth while. It is in the Alfama district (Old Town) nearly opposite the cruise ship terminal. As you step through the front door you see ornate floorings, stained... More

This hotel was the gem of a long trip filled with great hotels. The property is beautiful with a convenient location within the old part of the city. The staff was friendly, knowledgable and welcoming, making it feel like staying with friends in a gorgeous home. I cannot recommend this hotel enough.

We loved this gorgeous old palace, located in the Alfama district with a view of the water, and a garden balcony. The service was warm and welcoming, our room a fantastic mix of old and modern, and the breakfast was the best we had in Portugal. We wish we could have stayed for a month.

My husband and I stayed here the nights leading up to and of our Wedding and it was perfect! This hotel was like a fairytale-the building, the decor, the unique rooms, the location. Not to mention the decadent daily breakfast! But the service is really next level. Everyone was so amazing and friendly and went above and beyond to make our... More

We loved our stay- everything was great but the best part was Magda and crew- wish we could have taken the staff out with us at night. Such nice and friendly people and treated us like friends. We got the penthouse suite which was bigger than my entire NYC apartment and really funky/cool decorations. Also came with our own private... More

We lived a few blocks from this charming boutique hotel. On certain evenings they allow outside guests to eat or drink. We took them up on it. It's a former home of a Portuguese merchant that was turned into a hotel. The staff are hospitable and helpful. The wine and small dishes we ordered in the lounge area was just... More

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighbourhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
