We stayed in the 3 story Luxury Suite that included spectacular views from its balconies. On the first floor is a spacious bedroom and bathroom (with the largest shower we have ever seen) and a living room (that included a refrigerator with complimentary drinks). The second floor has a sitting area that includes a telescope and a wraparound balcony that includes a patio table and chairs. From the second-floor balcony you can take a flight of outside stairs that gives you access to the top floor which is an open-air viewing platform with lounge chairs and an unbelievable view of Alfama and the river.
With all the above said, what sets this hotel apart is its amazing staff and the service they provide which includes a delicious breakfast each morning. From the moment we arrived until we departed, Xavier and his staff provided us with exceptional service.
If you want to stay in a fabulous place in a fabulous city, we highly recommend Palacete Chafariz D'ei Rel in Lisbon.
P.S. Many of the historical tours make a stop outside of the Palacete.

Our bedroom was also incredible, overlooking the river and we were fortunate enough to have a balcony (which other rooms don’t). The staff couldn’t do enough for us, they were so friendly and polite. I can’t wait to return again!
An early 1900's house that was designed to look like a Palace. ( and it did)
Now huge rooms . Ours had balcony overlooking the river.
Very nice cooked breakfast in am. Do not get intimidated by entry. ( just a door up a staircase that you have to ring a doorbell) Staff at hotel are there to help with luggage )
After reservation, they offered a private pick up at airport for 40 euros , which is probably a good idea since a little hard to find . ( Not for the friendly driver however)
Diffidently recommend , especially if you are up for something a little different.

The good:
1. Oceanfront and walkable to many attractions.
2. The price is not cheap but also OK for what we got. Clean and well stocked with supplies (even slippers).
3. Quirky charm such as old photos and a chapel inside of the house.
4. Friendly staff (and I felt sorry that they needed to carry luggage through the windy narrow stairs due to no elevator)
The “not so good”, but not bad
1. The hotel can use some updates on the furniture. I understand that it might want to keep its old charm, but the fabrics and upholstery are quite worn.
2. I think most rooms have interior windows towards the beautiful main hall. This is not great for sleeping because there is no blind and you can hear other guests entering and leaving, chatting, echoes, etc.
3. We were told by the hotel that it’s best to book airport transportation through them because Uber won’t be able to reach residential streets in Alfama, I am not sure it was true. The taxi that picked us up from the airport dropped us off on Main Street and we had to carry our luggage through the street & stairs. The taxi picked us up from the hotel and somehow was able to get closer, but it was still a hassle.
Overall, it was an adequate experience but the hotel is different from what we expected.
