Palacete Chafariz d'el Rei, a member of Unlock Boutique Hotels, is located in the heart of Lisbon, in one of the city's most emblematic neighbourhoods: Alfama.

Palacete do Chafariz D'El Rei is a eclectic buiding with neo-Moorish style, dating from the end of the XIX century. With Art Nouveau Brazilian interiors, which were very usual at the turn of the century.

Palacete Chafariz D’el Rei breathes history in all its architectural features, as well as in the decorative elements, which make it unique in the region. In 2007, it underwent a careful recovery process, where every detail was planned to transform it in line with Charm House concept.

We spent 3 wonderful nights at the Palacete Chafariz D'ei Rei which is located in the Alfama neighborhood of Lisbon. We chose this hotel for many reasons including its historical significance and its location.
We stayed in the 3 story Luxury Suite that included spectacular views from its balconies. On the first floor is a spacious bedroom and bathroom (with the largest shower we have ever seen) and a living room (that included a refrigerator with complimentary drinks). The second floor has a sitting area that includes a telescope and a wraparound balcony that includes a patio table and chairs. From the second-floor balcony you can take a flight of outside stairs that gives you access to the top floor which is an open-air viewing platform with lounge chairs and an unbelievable view of Alfama and the river.
With all the above said, what sets this hotel apart is its amazing staff and the service they provide which includes a delicious breakfast each morning. From the moment we arrived until we departed, Xavier and his staff provided us with exceptional service.
If you want to stay in a fabulous place in a fabulous city, we highly recommend Palacete Chafariz D'ei Rel in Lisbon.
P.S. Many of the historical tours make a stop outside of the Palacete.

The hotel or Palace, whatever you want to call it, is great, although it is a hotel concept that doesn't suit me, because I don't like such old hotels, I like more modern ones, but it must be said that it is perfect. It is true that access is difficult with suitcases and that there is no elevator, but the staff helps you with all your luggage, even if you insist that you can take it up, but they will help you out. The check in was perfect, they gave us the room we had reserved, before the time. Our Suite was Sonia and was located on the first floor with views of the entrance alley and a little of the sea. The room is huge, everything is perfect, although the windows do not isolate the noise from the street and sometimes cold or wind enters through the cracks. The bed is comfortable, in our case there were two singles, but very comfortable and very warm. It is curious to have the toilet in the middle of the room covered with black curtains, but nothing more. The shower had good hot water pressure. WiFi works perfect and you have a TV with channels in any language. You have the minibar included. There is no kettle or coffee maker in the room although they told us at reception that we could ask for them without problem, and they would bring it to the room although I don't know if it is free. The whole room is curious but because it is as if you lived in a Palace. Perfect breakfast theme, you can do it in the rooms you want and it is not buffet or continental but they bring it to you at the moment, you can order EGGS, bacon, whatever you need. They serve you coffee and 4 breads of 2 different styles and 2 pieces of sweets plus a glass with Variada frts and freshly squeezed natural juices. Every day the juice is different, but if you want orange every day, you can let me know. The jams are all natural and the pumpkin one we had was great. You can repeat as many times as you want. Everything is cooked to order and served on very old tableware. The only bad thing is the breakfast time, which is late, since it goes from 830 to 1030 or 1130 if it is a weekend. Otherwise everything is perfect, you can go out to the terrace, walk or read in the living rooms. You cannot take your room key outside, you leave it at reception and when you come back you ring the bell and there are always people to open the door for you. All the people who attended us were charming, and the fact that they spoke Spanish was another point to take into account.

I booked the Palacete hoping to feel like Royalty to celebrate a special birthday - I wasn’t disappointed! 👸 We were welcomed wholeheartedly by the warm and genuine staff who can’t do enough to make you feel at home. We treated ourselves to the King Suite which has three floors topped by a balcony with a 360 degree view of Alfama, the oldest part of Lisbon. We were served an astonishingly good breakfast on our terrace on the first morning, but enjoyed the stunning dining room the next couple of mornings as we felt guilty watching the lovely staff patiently (and skilfully!) carrying everything up the winding staircases! (They assured us it was no big deal). Location, location, location - they say. Couldn’t ask for a more perfect position to explore this amazing City. Our Suite was spotless, furnished with beautiful, quirky furniture. The amazing shower was bigger than our entire bathroom at home 😂! What a treat. Don’t hesitate to come here if you have the chance.

This was one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at. When we travel we always look for hotels that are cultural, historical and charming. What a magnificent place. The service was outstanding, breakfast delicious, and tea and coffee delivered to your room after a long day an added delight. Our room included a living room with Tagus river views and a massive bathroom with a claw-foot bathtub.

We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful, unique hotel. It was a bit tricky to find the first time, but if you follow the signs beside Taylor's and trust going thru the alley and up the stairs, you won't be disappointed once you ring the bell and are greeted. The winding staircase up to the suites could be difficult for anyone with mobility issues, but otherwise it's definitely worth the walk. The 'Paula' room on the top floor was very spacious and comfortable, with amenities we weren't expecting, like a bar, stove top and fridge. The room has a nice view overlooking the river (sometimes with cruise ships) and while there is a/c it was lovely to have the windows open and appreciate the breeze from the water. We also really loved the breakfast - super fresh, daily made juices, pastries, meat and cheese - a perfect way to start the day. The staff were very friendly and attentive.

This boutique hotel, with just 6 bedrooms, is exquisite! It’s front door is hidden away down a narrow street, as soon as it’s opened you enter into the most magnificent hallway with bright colourful stain glass windows and ornate rooms off the hall. Breakfast is eaten in a very high end dining room, which I found exceptionally relaxing and peaceful. You are severed freshly squeezed fruit juices, pastries, hams & cheeses, yoghurts, freshly cut fruit, eggs & bacon. All of which tastes amazing.
Our bedroom was also incredible, overlooking the river and we were fortunate enough to have a balcony (which other rooms don’t). The staff couldn’t do enough for us, they were so friendly and polite. I can’t wait to return again!

Consider it a upgraded bed and breakfast
An early 1900's house that was designed to look like a Palace. ( and it did)
Now huge rooms . Ours had balcony overlooking the river.
Very nice cooked breakfast in am. Do not get intimidated by entry. ( just a door up a staircase that you have to ring a doorbell) Staff at hotel are there to help with luggage )
After reservation, they offered a private pick up at airport for 40 euros , which is probably a good idea since a little hard to find . ( Not for the friendly driver however)
Diffidently recommend , especially if you are up for something a little different.

Friendly welcome and a beautiful small-scale hotel. We had a very large room consisting of 3 floors with a sun terrace at the very top and a view of the city. Wonderful shower and beautiful breakfast room (both inside and outside).

We were expecting a “palace” and it was more an interesting old building from someone wealthy.

The good:
1. Oceanfront and walkable to many attractions.
2. The price is not cheap but also OK for what we got. Clean and well stocked with supplies (even slippers).
3. Quirky charm such as old photos and a chapel inside of the house.
4. Friendly staff (and I felt sorry that they needed to carry luggage through the windy narrow stairs due to no elevator)

The “not so good”, but not bad
1. The hotel can use some updates on the furniture. I understand that it might want to keep its old charm, but the fabrics and upholstery are quite worn.
2. I think most rooms have interior windows towards the beautiful main hall. This is not great for sleeping because there is no blind and you can hear other guests entering and leaving, chatting, echoes, etc.
3. We were told by the hotel that it’s best to book airport transportation through them because Uber won’t be able to reach residential streets in Alfama, I am not sure it was true. The taxi that picked us up from the airport dropped us off on Main Street and we had to carry our luggage through the street & stairs. The taxi picked us up from the hotel and somehow was able to get closer, but it was still a hassle.

Overall, it was an adequate experience but the hotel is different from what we expected.

This is one of the most beautiful hotels we’ve stayed in down to the smallest details. The decor, ambiance and level service are tip top! The manager, Xavier, and his team go above and beyond. It was pointed out to us by Maria of the Palacete. It is just in front of the building along the river. Difficult to explain as the entrance to the Palacete is from the back up some stairs on a little side street. But the facade looks onto the river. The parking is across the street and on the river front. Hope this helps. In any case it is easy to leave the car for a few minutes on a meter and go into the hotel. They will come and get your luggage if you need help.
