My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights in celebration of our silver wedding anniversary. Having considered many, many choices of hotels in Lisbon, selecting the Hotel Britania was a brilliant decision. When going to Lisbon, this hotel should be your No.1 choice.
What makes this hotel special are the exceptional staff. From Carolina and Migual at receiption with their welcoming, friendly and efficient manner to the front of house and housekeeping teams, many of whom have been there for years.
In particular, a large thank you to Carolina with her wonderful suggestions, directions and history that made our visit more fulfilling.
The Hotel Britania is a truly exceptional blend of elegance, history, and style. A hidden gem that’s been preserving the charm of the 1940s, this boutique hotel offers guests a luxurious, intimate experience that feels both timeless and refreshingly modern. From the moment you step through the doors, you’re transported into a world where art deco opulence meets warm Portuguese hospitality.
Just a short walk from the vibrant Avenida da Liberdade (Lisbon's fifth Avenue equivalent), we had easy access to Lisbon’s best shopping, dining, and cultural landmarks.
Each room is a beautiful balance of classic design and modern amenities. From the plush bedding (the bed was massive !!) to the soft lighting and luxurious marble bathrooms your in comfort from the moment you walk in the door.
We will definetely return to the Hotel Britania Art Deco and I would highly recommed staying here.

This was our first visit to Lisbon and we couldn’t have asked for a nicer hotel to stay in. As the name says this hotel has a lot of art deco features which are reflected in all the decor and furniture. We had a junior suite which was very good value as part of a holiday package and the room was extremely spacious and had high quality toiletries and good quality towels We had breakfast as part of our package and this had cold and hot options and was replenished on a very regular basis. There was also the offer of complementary afternoon tea every day which was a nice added touch. The best thing though was by far the staff who were consistently friendly and helpful and seemed to genuinely enjoy working there. Location wise- easy walk to the centre and close to metro and bus stops. Also many decent and very reasonably priced restaurants within 200m of the hotel We will be back to Lisbon and certainly to this hotel.

Wonderfully friendly staff throughout the hotel and a wonderful Art Deco style in almost the entire building, except for the converted attic, await you here. The atmosphere in the restaurant is great, very contemplative, a wonderful breakfast is offered and also afternoon tea or coffee with very good local sweets. The Art Deco rooms are generally beautiful and port wine is also provided on the sideboard free of charge, which is very generous. The Molton Brown bathroom products are also of good quality. The big problem, however, is that the rooms are very noisy; you can hear the words in the neighboring rooms; all the Art Deco-style rooms have connecting doors in the anteroom, so even if the anteroom door is closed, the babble of voices and the television in the next room can be heard clearly, as can the footsteps on the upper floor and of course the water and sewage pipes. There is also sometimes a very "shrill" noise, which is particularly unpleasant because it is surprising and very loud. You can therefore only sleep with ear protection, especially since the windows on the street - although there is little traffic - do not seal well. Unfortunately, there was also mold in the bathroom by the sink and bathtub. The shower curtain by the bathtub is also unnecessary. The mixture of the temperature in the bathtub and shower is very difficult to adjust so that it remains stable. The hotel is therefore generally interesting in terms of style, but not relaxing; you cannot stay here for more than one or two days. The rooms on the top floor are modern and have an internal door to the anteroom, but there is no such thing in the suite, which is very poorly planned, the bedroom is not very intimate, there is no door to the living room and the very large bathroom only has a bathtub and no separate shower. Without air conditioning, nothing would probably work in the top floor in summer, I can imagine.

This is a boutique hotel I would always want to go back! The location is as convenient as it gets. One can access public transportation, parks, restaurants, and one of the main avenues in Lisbon by walking just a few meters. The staff is kind, attentive, reliable, efficient, responsive and will always make you feel welcome. The bedrooms are spacious and the beds super comfortable. ALL the areas are spotless clean! Additionally, the free WiFi connection is strong and stable. They serve breakfast buffet for almost 5 hours, making it convenient for the early birds and those who would like to sleep-in. The variety of food is good, but most importantly everything is always fresh. Coffee...oh the coffee...all the types of coffee were really good. I highly recommend Hotel Britania Art Deco if you are looking to stay in a peaceful, clean, comfortable, and centric location in Lisbon. Search no more!

We stayed here in early February on the last two days of our 3 weeks in Portugal, and we are so glad that we had chosen this hotel for our ending stay. While the location was very convenient and the room comfortable and quiet, it was the people who really made our stay feel exceptional. Door men, front desk, breakfast staff, everyone we interacted with was helpful and upbeat. Whoever manages the hotel chooses and trains their people well – it shows. I’m a light sleeper very sensitive to noise, but I had no problem here. Our room’s entry door opened to a small foyer with bathroom to the left and a separate inner door, which isolated the room from the hall. The window had outer and inner windows; the hotel faces a quiet street with a building under construction across the street but I was never disturbed by noise. As to location, the Avenida metro stop is only a few minutes walk away, as are numerous good restaurants on R. de Santa Marta / R. Sao Jose. We like to walk everywhere (even with the hills), and 20 minutes or less in various directions will get you to the main tourist sights. Breakfast was filling and the hours were quite generous as I recall. We look forward to staying again next year!

We had previously visited the Britania a decade or so ago and had really enjoyed doing so but this was one of those rare occasions where a place that you had enjoyed in the past is even better on a repeat visit.
The hotel is a lovely art deco building, really well maintained and very beautiful, and so well-sited, just off the main Avenue but in a relatively quiet side street. Our room was really well equipped and with modern facilities but still in keeping with the hotel's decor and atmosphere.
What really made the visit so special, though, was the warm and friendly welcome which we felt from all of those working at the hotel, whether the front desk, the ladies who looked after the (absolutely superb) breakfast buffet or the true gentleman who looked after the front door. Overall there was an atmosphere of doing things well to make the guests feel comfortable and welcome but not obtrusively or just for the sake of it or to show off.
It really was a great pleasure to visit and we definitely look forward t doing so again, much sooner than our last gap.

I have traveled extensively, but I don’t recall ever having such an amazing hotel stay. We stayed a total of 5 nights and every single staff member deserves an award for being so kind, respectful and eager to please no matter the time of day. Management should be proud. Whatever they are doing, it is certainly working. The hotel itself is beautiful and in a perfect location, right off a beautiful main avenue. We walked everywhere from the hotel. They are also located very close to the Sao Bento train station, making day trips very easy. Our rooms (We stayed 3 nights then returned at the end of our trip for two more nights) were spotless, well-equipped and very spacious, especially by European standards. There is a safe for valuables. There’s a coffee maker and a beautiful decanter with port and glasses to enjoy in your room. The a/c works great and we heard no noise from outside whatsoever. The included breakfast buffet served in a very spacious area of the lobby with table-cloth covered tables was fantastic, with both hot and cold food, fresh fruit and juices - definitely something for everyone and the ladies did a great job of making sure everything was replenished. There is a bar in the lobby where every night we enjoyed a shot (or two) of Ginja on the house. Because we booked early, we got an amazing rate which was a real bargain for the service and quality of the hotel. The only negative was that our vacation came to an end and we had to leave. It was a sad day indeed. I can’t recommend this hotel enough.

What a gem of a hotel - we were so lucky to find it and stay there. This boutique hotel has been tastefully renovated to its original Art Deco style, with gleaming marble floors and 40s furniture. The staff were extremely helpful in every way, and we were more than surprised to find a huge room with beautiful soft furnishings, big bed and comfy bedding. With its central location, designer shops and buses close by and the historic quarter a 20 minute stroll away it surpassed our expectations in every way. We will be back! May&Tony

Hotel Britania Art Deco is a living history. I stayed four nights on my first visit to Lisbon. I wish I had stayed longer.
Once the most avant-garde and luxurious place to stay in Lisbon at the time it first opened, the hotel is rich in details from the Art Deco period. It became quite obvious to me that a lot thoughts have been put into the decoration to resort the glory of the establishment formerly known as Hotel do Império. I was given the Vinicius room on the second floor, which was exceptionally spacious by the standards of a urban hotel in Europe. It even came with a vestibule, which provided additional privacy.
In the lounge/cafe on the ground floor, breakfast and afternoon teas were served daily. I found the choices at the full English breakfast quite impressive, and the afternoon tea particularly helpful since it is customary in Lisbon to have dinner later than what I am used to. A snack or two with tea was the most refreshing moment after a long day of sightseeing in Lisbon during my stay.
The staff were kind, efficient, and knowledgable about the neighborhood and about the history of the hotel. They helped me with all kinds of things, from restraurant recommendations/reservations, to luggage, taxi rides, to explaining urban myths and street food. They truly represent the spirit of the golden age of hospitality.
I would very much love to stay at Hotel Britania Art Deco again!
